He is survived by his loving wife Carol Martens, his children, Jeremy Sawatzky-Martens (Tamara), grandsons, Wesley and Max, Kari Martens (Aaron Denysuik), grandson William Denysuik, Krissi Peters (Elroy), his mother Martha Martens, and his five siblings and their families. Funeral services will be held on Friday March 8, 2019 at Steinbach Mennonite Church, 345 Loewen Blvd., Steinbach, at 10:30 a.m. Viewing will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch Street, Winnipeg from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., with a devotional at 7:00 p.m. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Bethesda Foundation (envelopes available at the services).

I'm so sorry to hear of your huge loss. I met Gary when my sister Hildie became ill with cancer - she and Gary created a special bond and could relate to similar complications having had the same disease. I appreciated Gary's friendship and understanding for Hildie. He spoke at her service - he gave an awesome message which brought tears to many that heard it.
