SALVATORE CARLO DE THOMASIS
November 4, 1937 - March 28, 2019

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Salvatore Carlo De Thomasis.
Left to mourn his loss, Salvatore leaves behind his caring wife of 52 years, Lidia; his children, Clarita (Rae), Annalisa, Mauro (Amira), Silvana (Gene), Fabrizia (Edward), Sabrina, and Enrico; and his grandchildren, Zachary, Alesandro, Caleb, Adrian, Katiana, Jaedan, and Ella.
Salvatore was predeceased by his father Vincenzo De Thomasis, mother Angiolina Sallese, and his two sons, Riccardo and Roberto.
Sal was born in Caramanico Terme, Abruzzi, Italy. In 1957, he immigrated to Canada with his father for employment. They worked together in Canada for 10 years and he eventually obtained Canadian citizenship in 1962.
In 1967, Sal returned to Italy and met his wife Lidia. In 1968, they made their way back to Canada and settled in Winnipeg to start a new life together.
Sal began his career in the construction industry. He was a conscientious worker with very strong work ethics, dedicating time to his career to ensure his family was always provided for.
He enjoyed his various jobs at CP Rail, CN Rail, Trident, Gateway, Dominion, Kraft, V.K. Mason, Malcolm and PCL Construction. He took pride in his work leaving his stamp on some major landmarks in Winnipeg including: Winnipeg Square Concourse, Bishop Grandin Bridge, Grace Hospital, St. Boniface Hospital, Calvary Temple, and St. Maurice School gymnasium to name a few.
Between working hard and raising his family, he found pleasure in the simple things life had to offer. We will remember how much he loved nurturing his garden, making wine, and working on his carpentry projects.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, Highway No. 1 East at Navin Road.
A private family entombment will follow at Green Acres Cemetery where he will be laid to rest alongside his two sons.
