DAVID BERNHARD DUECK
Left to cherish many wonderful memories is his wife of 50 years, Toni; his sons, Paul (Ellen) and Conrad (Lois); and daughter Sonia (Lyndon) Hiebert, along with 11 grandchildren.
David was born on October 3, 1940, in Minto, Manitoba. He was raised in Boissevain, Manitoba by his loving parents as the second of four children. He attended Winkler Bible School and would often remark how influential these years were for both his spiritual and personal development. Additionally, this is where his fascination with film as a powerful medium of influence, began. David completed his Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Nuclear Physics at McMaster University. He obtained a Bachelor of Education degree and taught Physics and Math at the high school level. During the 1980s, he began his foray into film production with a focus on the Mennonite Community. His most notable film "And When They Shall Ask " won numerous awards and has now been translated into German and Spanish. As a result of this accomplishment and contribution to the community, an Honorary Doctorate was bestowed on him in 2008 from Providence University College. David would give much credit to his dear wife Toni, who worked alongside him as his partner on both the production and distribution of his film projects.
For the last 17 years of his professional life, David was a Facilities Manager for Marwest Management responsible for two premier Winnipeg Heritage Buildings; the Hamilton and The Grain Exchange. He was active on numerous boards including the Heritage Foundation of Canada and Heritage Winnipeg.
Additionally, he dedicated many years to the board of Square One World Media (formerly Family Life Network).
Family was of utmost importance to David. His children and grandchildren felt deeply loved and valued by him. He retained a love for gardening from his early years on the farm throughout his entire life.
David was an active member of North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church and served as a deacon and adult Sunday School teacher.
His desire was to bring Glory to God through his work, his relationships and ultimately his life. Although Alzheimer's had taken over some aspects of his mind, it was a blessing to have him as our beloved husband, father, Opi, brother, uncle and friend. He was loved by many for his compassion, kindness and gentle spirit. We have missed his enthusiasm and vitality for a short while, but have always felt his love and encouragement. David was a man worthy of our honour and respect. He will be missed.
The celebration of his life will take place on Friday, May 17, 10:30 a.m. at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road at Springfield Road. A viewing will take place at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street on Thursday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Onkel Dave was a big contributor for children's features in our church. In the old church building on Kingsford Avenue, Onkel Dave was often the one calling us all to the front telling us Bible stories and adding interesting facts about nature and science. We had very long church services in both languages in those days. Children's feature was a highlight. He was a great encourager and always had such a positive attitude that was contagious. Tante Toni, Paul Conrad and Sonia please accept our condolences. He will be missed. Big shoes to fill. So sorry for your loss - Posted by: Hans E. Boge (Relative and Friend) on: May 16, 2019
