JOSEPH BODNAR
Joseph was predeceased by his parents, his wife Katherine and his son John; and is survived by his daughter-in-law Frances, grandson Jonathan, and family in Ukraine.
He worked on a farm in Austria during the war years and immigrated to Canada with his wife and son in 1948. The family lived and worked on a farm in Kamsack, Saskatchewan and then moved to Winnipeg in 1959. Joseph was employed for many years in the custodial department in the School of Dentistry at the University of Manitoba.
In his retirement years, Joseph enjoyed his garden and apple trees, and socializing at the Seniors' Club at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church.
Thank you to the staff at Maples Personal Care Home, especially Troy, Donna, Eva and Jason, as well as the nurses and doctors at the Seven Oaks Hospital Dialysis Unit for their kindness and compassionate care.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Rev. Fr. Volodymyr Bashutskyy officiating. Interment at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph's memory may be made to Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Avenue, Winnipeg, MB; or a charity of one's choice.

I remember Joe when he arrived in Saskatchewan Canada in 1948 with his family under the sponsorship of my father Steve Bodnar, uncle to Joe. Joe and his family came from England after WWII where he was part of the Polish Free Army. Joe, his wife Katie and little boy John lived with us for a while on our farm near Tadmore, SK until they accepted a more permanent position on a farm near Kamsack, SK. As a 10 year old I recall some of the stories Joe used to tell about the war and the impact it had on his and my father's familes in that part of Europe.
