MAGDALENE HARRIS
She will be missed by her children, Susan (David), David (Irene), Jim (Deb), Tom (Teresa) and Ruth; 14 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mom's greatest gift was what she could create with her hands. Beautiful perennial gardens, intricate greeting cards and knitted baby blankets were just the start of it. Sunday dinners were an occasion with delicious food, a beautifully decorated table and special dishes. She sewed most of her own clothes for years. Her most impressive creations were her quilts and wall-hangings.
In the early 1980s, she opened Magdalene's Sewing Shoppe in the Boardwalk Mall and many women loved taking her quilting classes or bought sewing machines from her. She was a gifted teacher and worked hard to build up her customers confidence so they could be creative as well. Later she married Bill Harris and together, Harris Sewing Centre became the one-stop shop for sewing machines, quilting classes and fabrics.
Mom also loved bird watching, spending time at the cottage, her dogs, reading, McNally Robinson and trips to Switzerland. Classical music was a big part of her life and was always playing when we went to her house. She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing old German hymns while playing the piano. She felt a deep spiritual connection with nature and this gave her much peace and comfort over the years.
A private family service has been held.

We would like to express our condolences on the loss of your Mother. Magdalene was always a very generous host when we were in Winnipeg visiting her and Bill. I remember the effort she made to connect with our daughter and also as an avid reader with various interests. She was an accomplished gardener as her and Bill had a beautiful backyard. We hope that her passing was peaceful. Kent, Jennifer and Kendall Harris, Victoria, BC - Posted by: Kent Harris (Stepson) on: Jul 29, 2019
