MYCHALINA (LENA) FERNIUK
(nee HAWRYLUK)
November 21, 1918 - August 25, 2019
Lena was born on a farm near Gimli, in Foley, MB, and attended Proud School near Winnipeg Beach. She met Peter in a dance hall in Komarno, where he stole her love, and they were soon married. Peter was a miner, and they moved to the McKenzie Island Ontario gold mine. Lena started her family there in Red Lake, giving life to Richard, and five years later to Larry (Helen) in Winnipeg, where her sons created their own families.
She is predeceased by her husband Peter; son Larry; four sisters, Annie, Helen, Stella and Beatrice; and three brothers, Henry, Tony, and Paul.
Lena is survived by son Richard; sister Josephine; three grandchildren, Darlene (Brock), Michael (Barb) and Karen (Julian); four great-grandchildren, Laura, Cayden, Ryan and Kyle; along with many nieces and nephews.
She retired from Hudson's Bay Co. after 21 years as the Lingerie Sales Manager. She enjoyed nearly 40 years of fun filled retirement, winters at their condo in Miami Beach and summers at the cottage in Winnipeg Beach, where her family enjoyed time together. She loved entertaining, being with family, dancing, curling, playing baseball as back catcher, earning trophies, amazing cooking, fixing, and keeping busy. We would all agree her pickles were also award winning. A graceful hard worker, and swift minded all the way.
Sincere gratitude to her niece Sally who was always there for her. Thank you to the caring staff at Cathedral Manor, and to the outstanding attention provided at St. Joseph's Residence, where she respectfully completed her journey.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 7 at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. at Henderson Highway.
"We will miss you, dear Grandma."

We had intended on including some of the best years of Lena‘s life after her husband Peter‘s passing, which were spent with her school sweetheart Pawlo (Paul) Wawryk. They were fortunate to meet each other again at a Foley school reunion in 2000. Paul treated Lena like a queen, and she was always happy when she was with him, until his passing in 2009. We wish to express grateful thanks to him and his family for his positive outlook on life, and for sharing that and all the love he had for Lena. - Posted by: Mike Ferniuk (Grandson) on: Sep 02, 2019
