IRENE DE JESUS CAMILO
August 25, 1931- September 5, 2019
Irene was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Heitor Camilo, her parents and her eight siblings. Irene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and sister-in-law, who will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Tina (Arthur Vieira) and Anna (Roger Fernandes), her grandchildren, Serena, Shane, Scott, Kyle and Chantelle, great-grandson Landen, her brother-in-law Julio Camilo and her nephew Paulo. She will be missed by family and friends both in Winnipeg and Portugal.
Irene was born and raised in Algarve, Portugal. She then moved to work in the Lisbon area. Mom married the love of her life in 1960 and two years later had two twin daughters. To make a better life for the family, Mom moved to Winnipeg to join her husband in December, 1967. Mom worked at Winnipeg Leather until she retired in 1993. Mom and Dad then travelled between the retirement home they built in Mom's birth town in the Algarve and Winnipeg to be with her beloved daughters and grandchildren; returning permanently back to Winnipeg in 2006. Family was what she treasured most. Mom worked hard, she was a good cook and baker. She loved making the grandkids favourite foods and mending their clothes. She liked socializing with her friends and watching her favourite TV soaps on RTP TV. Mom will be truly missed by all of us.
The family wishes to thank the staff of N5 at Grace Hospital, Cornish 2 at the Misericordia Hospital, Unit 2 at St. Joseph's Residence and N1 at Concordia Hospital for their compassionate care and support.
Prayer service will be held on Tuesday, September 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1422 Main St., Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. with Rev. Fr. Andre Lico officiating. Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue West.
