DOUGLAS JAMES CATHRO
December 26, 1956 - September 30, 2019

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Doug Cathro surrounded by many of his loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Doug will forever be remembered by his loving wife Lori, and his two sons, Jeremy (Shawna) and Ryan (Livia), as well as his four precious grandchildren, Larissa, Hailey, Dylan and Chace, and goddaughter Carli.
He will be sadly missed by his father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Joyce; siblings, Glen (Val), Kathy, Dan; and Lori's siblings, Dean, Chris and Jackie, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father David, his mother Dorothy, and his siblings, Diane, Donald and Darren.
Besides spending time with his family and friends, Doug loved to golf and play slo-pitch. He also loved to travel, and he was a passionate Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Winnipeg Jets fan. He loved music, old movies and all kinds of puzzles.
Doug was known for his contagious laugh and his amazing smile. He will be remembered as a cheerful guy with a kind and gentle soul. He was a wonderful man, who will be missed by everyone who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 25 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Oxford Heights Community Club (Upstairs Hall) located at 359 Dowling Ave. E. in Transcona.
The family would like to share a heartfelt thank you with the staff on 3West at Concordia Hospital for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to CancerCare Manitoba in Doug's memory.

  • I am so sorry Lori to learn of Doug’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I’ll always remember Doug as a “genuine “ & fun-loving guy with that infectious laugh. He was a terrific guy to be around and to work with. Always fun times working with him at the Wpg Tax Centre. May your wonderful memories and the love of God give you comfort and strength during this difficult time. Take care; sending hugs. - Posted by: Linda Skiba (Co-worker) on: Oct 09, 2019

  • Doug had a smile that lights up your day! A chuckle and laugh that you can hear far away, as it sure warms you up and brings you joy. Doug was a Big Bear with a soft and loving heart of which he shows each and every time you see him. This is my son Rylan's Uncle Doug, a Wonderful Man. He was great with everyone... the grandkids, nieces, nephews, grownups. Doug (& Lori) always made us feel at home and loved. For the joy you brought to our lives, WE WILL MISS YOU!! - Posted by: Rylan & Michelle (Rylan's Uncle Doug) on: Oct 05, 2019

  • So sorry for your loss, Lori and family. He was easy to talk with and he loved the Bombers (unless they lost) and golf (could he ever drive the ball!) and, in his younger days, slo-pitch. That's where we met you, both, on Sue's team, One Bad Inning. He will be greatly missed but will live on in our memories. Take care, our thoughts are with you during this time. - Posted by: Duncan and Jo-Anne McKay (Friends ) on: Oct 05, 2019
