MARIA DE FILIPPIS
(nee DI MARTINO)

It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Maria De Filippis, on Thursday, October 10, 2019.
She will be deeply missed, and her memory will be forever cherished by her loving daughters, Teresa and Lidia (Will), and grandchildren, Brandon, Mason, Mackenzie and Kieran. Maria is also survived by her brothers, Antonio and Aldo (Lucia); sisters-in-law, Filomena and Angela, and many nieces and nephews in Winnipeg, Italy and Australia.
Maria was predeceased by her beloved husband Federico; her parents, Maria and Donato Di Martino, brothers, Vittorio, Oscar and Ettore; sisters-in-law, Fedora Di Martino and Giuseppina Di Martino; in-laws, Giustiniano and Teresa De Filippis; son-in-law Tomas Wackerman, and nephew Corrado Di Martino.
Maria was born in Casalbordino, Italy on January 21, 1937, where she married her childhood sweetheart, Federico, before moving to Canada in 1962. Federico joined her in Winnipeg the following year where they settled down and started a family. She worked hard for many years as a sewing machine operator before eventually retiring to care for her grandchildren. Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren who will miss their loving Nonna.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at St. Joseph's Residence for all their kindness and compassion while caring for her in her final years.
Funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, condolences at 10:00 a.m., Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m., at Holy Rosary Parish, 510 River Avenue with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano the celebrant. Reception to follow at Holy Rosary Parish Hall. Entombment will take place at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, 3990 Portage Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.

We will love and miss you always Nonna.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I cannot express the great sadness I feel over your Mom's illness and passing. She was a wonderful woman with the biggest heart and was always willing to offer it - opening her door to many many friends and family throughout her life. And all who knew her never left empty handed or without a full belly of her delicious Italian treats. May God Bless you all and provide you with strength now and forever. Never feel you are alone, just reach out and I'll be there, always. - Posted by: Monique Parisian (Lifelong Friend of Lidia ) on: Oct 16, 2019

  • Teresa and family, my sincere condolences to you and your family on the loss of your mother. Your mother and our grandmother (Tom’s aunt) lived at St. Joseph’s at the same time. I came across your name in the sign in book and always looked for you when I was visiting. I hope and pray your memories and lifetime of love brings you peace at this difficult time. - Posted by: Eva Wojcik (Cousin of Tom Wackerman) on: Oct 16, 2019
