JAMES M. RUSSELL
September 11, 1926 - November 1, 2019
Born in Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scotland, he emigrated to Canada with his family while still young. As a young man, he served as a paratrooper in the Second Word War. Settling down in Winnipeg, he married and enjoyed many years at the cottage in Lac du Bonnet while working for Winnipeg Hydro until he retired in 1985.
He was predeceased by his wife Margaret Russell (Wurster) in 2014 and is survived by his partner Fran Mills of Winnipeg and sister Jean Mensforth of Peterborough, Ontario along with numerous nephews and nieces. He will be greatly missed.
Donations in memory of James may be made to the MS Society of Manitoba.

When my family first bought the cabin in LDB, Jim was the first to come over and offer his services as carpenter, historion, keyholder gardener and locator of rare orchids ( purple lady slippers.) He helped build our patio deck with Margarets supervision. Jims eyebrow would sometimes rise at Margarets knowledge of carpentry excellence. Jim never spoke of his paratrooper days which i feel is a loss to me not to know of his dedication and braverly and contribution to Canada. Jim's reserve of lifes experience was always apparent in his day to day life and contact with people. We all could learn from Jim how to build a better Canada. I would like to hear from Jims family re his pre Winnipeg hydro days. - Posted by: Patrick Lennox (Next door cabin neighbour Lac Du Bonett) on: Nov 12, 2019
