ALICE MARY KOSIE
(nee VANDERSTEEN)
September 27, 1928 - December 9, 2019

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 91 years of age.
Alice will be dearly missed by her children, Cathie Vail (Darren), Michael (Diane), Patsy Lawson (Curtis), Peter (Susan), Eileen Fatouros (Ted), Doreen and Richard; grandchildren, Doug (Nina), Tricia (Kam), Ian (Iwona), Colin, Stuart, Andrew (Jen), Sean, Chad (Rachael), Sarah (Justin), Max, and Sandra (Travis); great-grandchildren, Akilles, Liam, Lily, William and Isla.
Alice will also be lovingly remembered by her brothers, Tim and Herb (Rose) Vandersteen, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Harry; parents, Cornelius and Rica; siblings, Alida, Cora, Casey, Mary, Paul, Ann, John and Gerry.
Alice was born in Dry River, MB and grew up in Fisher Branch. She moved to Winnipeg with her parents and worked at Paulin Chambers until she married Dad (Harry) in 1952. She then became a homemaker and was kept busy raising her seven children. Alice was very involved in volunteering at Holy Cross Church and was a member of the CWL for many years. She enjoyed prayer groups and faith-based learning. Alice was very young at heart, learning to swim at 50, learning to dance at 76 and continuing to drive until almost 90.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care nurses and Rhonda and staff at Cathedrale Manor. We are also very grateful for the loving care Mom received at Jocelyn House Hospice where she spent her final months.
Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, December 16, 2019 at Holy Cross Church, 252 Dubuc St. The church will be open at 10:30 a.m. for family memories, everyone welcome. Luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, those so wishing, may make a donation in Alice's memory to Jocelyn House Hospice.

  • Sometimes there are no words that can ease your loss. Please know how sorry I am. I am not able to be with you on Monday, but I will be thinking of you all. With sincere sympathy, Nancy - Posted by: Nancy Kosie (Barrie's wife) on: Dec 15, 2019

  • I am truly sorry to hear of the passing of another lady who contributed to the history of Manitoba as the daughter of homesteaders. Her family and mine share some connections that tell much of the history of Manitoba, of Canada, and of North America. My condolences to her family. - Posted by: Rick Dondo (Distant relative) on: Dec 14, 2019
