ELIZABETH (ELSIE) MARY DOUGLAS
1924 - 2020

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our compassionate loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Elizabeth (Elsie) Douglas, on January 6, 2020, at the Poseidon Care Home.
Elsie is survived by her daughters, Arleen (Ed), Diana (Bruce), and Barbara; brother-in-law Paul; daughter-in-law Shirley; grandchildren, Sergio (Kelly), Shannon (Derek), Stacie (Paul), Andrea (Massimo); seven great-grandchildren, Shantel, Ryan, Brooke, Abbie, Saverio, Santino, and Kai, as well as four stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Catherine; her son (Jimmy); her sisters, Jean, Bernice; brother-in-law Steve, and her two Himalayan cats, Sulu and Suzi.
Mom worked at Rae & Jerry's as a waitress for 42 years, and was known for telling her peers how to set the table. She loved gardening and planting flowers. Mom planted all the flowers and begonias at Rae & Jerry's for years. Mom also worked for Bill's Greenhouses every spring/summer selling plants and giving advice on how and where to plant. She also enjoyed making floral arrangements, bridal bouquets and corsages for weddings, as well as seashell ornaments. Mom was a hard worker, and any project she undertook was done with zest and enthusiasm. She always had a positive attitude and smile. Mom was a very caring, loving and generous person to all. She loved all her children and especially misses her son, Jim who passed away in 2015. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her. Her eyes lit up when they came to visit her. They were the apple of her eye.
Mom loved to travel. She loved sitting under a palm tree and she enjoyed many memorable cruises to the Southern Caribbean, as well as several trips to Hawaii, Florida and shopping in Grand Forks and Fargo. Mom will be sadly missed by all, especially the many phone calls she made to her children every day.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Iresha, and the nurses and health care aides at Concordia Hospital. We especially thank ALL the nurses and health care aides on the 5th Floor, Poseidon Care Centre for looking after our mom during her last days.
Mom has been cremated. Interment and celebration of Mom's life will be held in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Elsie was a good friend to Dot & Lloyd Zimmerman and their family while in Ashbury Place. She loved bring plants and tomatoes to them. My sister, Pam, and I, Wendy brought the 3 of them out for the day to Petersfield to have a day on Netley Creek. It was a nice day of bbqing, boating and strolling along the shore. Elsie will meet up with Dot & Lloyd who have predeceased them and walk through the garden together. - Posted by: Wendy Eade (Friend) on: Jan 11, 2020
