RANA KAVAL CHOHAN

Rana Kaval Chohan passed peacefully in the Poseidon Personal Care Home, surrounded by loved ones, on January 21, 2020, at 9:15 p.m., in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 88.
Kaval is survived by his wife of 50 years, Edna Chohan; his son Vijay; his daughters, Sahara, Meera, and Melina; as well as his grandchildren, Vikas and Vishal.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers.
Kaval was born on March 25, 1931, in Sarhal Mundi, India. He studied and received degrees from Punjab University, London University (UK), University of Manitoba, and a graduate degree from Michigan State University.
Kaval began his teaching career in London, England, and moved to Winnipeg to teach with the Winnipeg School Division in 1963. He then spent the majority of his career there as a Principal.
His friends and family remember him as a man of impeccable style and manners.
Kaval was a dedicated individual who spent 15 years volunteering with the RCMP as an Auxiliary Constable. He was passionate about helping new immigrants as they transitioned to life in Canada. He served on the board of the International Centre for over 20 years. He also served on the Winnipeg Teachers Association executive for six years.

A celebration of his life is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2020, at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road (Unitarian Church). All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kaval's life.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and hospital staff over the last few months for their care and dedication.

  • We are saddened to learn of the passing of Kaval. We have fond memories of the times spent in the company of Kaval and Edna. As former neighbors on Oxford St. we enjoyed many a get-together for afternoon tea or evening libation and nibbles. We will always remember Kaval as a true gentleman with a wonderful sense of humor.
