LOUIS BEDNAR

Passing peacefully, on the morning of January 29, 2020, God called Louis home where he could be reunited with his dearest Anne.
Louis leaves to mourn his loving family: daughters, Lucille (Ted Williams) and Emily (Allan Bedard); grandchildren, Laura (Joe Barkman), Steven (Ainsley Price), Mark (Analee Baldazo), Scott (Michelle Weinhandl), Kim (Scott Kuz) and Melissa (Eric Vallance); great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Addison, Zara, Kellan and Chloe. He is survived by sister-in-law Josie Bednar, and his many nieces and nephews.
Louis was born in February 1923, in the village of Neporadza, Czechoslovakia. At the age of three, his family moved to Sarluhy. With the rumblings of war in 1938, his father decided to bring his family of five sons to Canada. They settled at Dufresne, MB, where they all lived and farmed for many years. It was here that Louis met Anne Kiselica, the love of his life. They married in 1951. By this time, Louis had moved to work in the city as a butcher and still worked his farm. He did have his own corner store for a short time, but then worked at the packing houses in old St. Boniface. In the late 1950s, he started working for Petty's Meat Market. In 1968, with his business partner, he took over the store on Portage Avenue and it became known as Pennywise Meats. Louis operated the business until his retirement.
Anne and Louis enjoyed nearly 68 years of marriage. They were loving and devoted parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. They worked hard on the farm and in the city establishing the business. Retirement meant time for grandkids and travel. Louis was deeply saddened and lonely without his dear Anne this past year.
Louis was an active member of St. Bernadette Parish where he joined the Men's Club and Knights of Columbus. He was a man of great faith and prayer.
Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road. Interment will follow at Green Acres Cemetery, Highway #1 East at Navin Road, Winnipeg, MB.

  • Dear Lucille Emily and familys very sorry to hear of the loss of your Father your parents were special people it was always a pleasure to meet with them may they now be reunited together in heaven. - Posted by: Anne Augustine (Friend) on: Feb 08, 2020

  • So sorry to hear of the passing of your parents. Their home was always open and welcoming. I loved the trips to the farm with Emily, hanging out at the store to ‘help’, and going to the centre to watch Emily dance. Their love and devotion to each other was evident every time they looked at one another. - Posted by: Kimberly Bennett( nee Andrews) (Neighbour and friend) on: Feb 01, 2020
