GERARD JOSEPH MAERTENS
January 8, 1943 - January 30, 2020

With deep sadness we announce that Gerry passed away, peacefully on January 30, 2020, at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba after a brief illness.
He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia; parents, Julien Maertens and Emerence Maertens (Stragier); brothers, Andy and George, and sisters, Marguerite, Blanche, Jenny and Irene.
He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory his sons, Robert (Dolores), James, Richard and Jonathan (Azra); his sister, Lillian; granddaughters, Karyn and Courtney, grandson Connor, and numerous other family and friends.
Gerry will be remembered for his strong sense of family and how important they were to him. He loved watching his Blue Bombers play and going to the games with the friends in his season ticket section. He enjoyed fishing and golfing with family and friends. Gerry was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered much of his time to several other organizations. He always strived to remember everyone on special occasions, was always ready to help others and was known and loved for his warm, outgoing personality.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home, Highway 1 East at Navin Road, Winnipeg on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.
The family extends a special thank you to the 3 North medical staff at Grace Hospital for the wonderful care given to Gerry during his stay.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be considered to Siloam Mission, where he volunteered for many years.
