AIME CARON

Peacefully, on Saturday, February 1, 2020, Aimé passed away after a long and full life, four days before his 99th birthday.
Papa is lovingly remembered and will be dearly missed by his daughters, Yvonne, Claudette (Glenn) and Anna (Dennis); his grandchildren, Chris, (Lindsay), Amy (Brian) and Dave; and his great-granddaughters, Brielle and Peyton. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Isabel and Edith and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Xavier and Anna; his wife Odile; and all his siblings, Berthe (m.o.), Marcel, Denis, Louis, Gilles, Raymond, Pauline and Rita.
Papa was born February 5, 1921. He lived all his life in Charleswood and St. Charles, attending St. Charles Convent while living on the family farm. He also attended College St. Boniface for a short time and was always proud of his studies there. As a young man, he left the farm and worked in bush camps and road construction, subsequently transitioning to a career as a heavy duty mechanic. He was employed by Taillieu Construction for forty years where his expertise was indispensable. After his retirement, he could be found in his garage repairing all kinds of equipment. He was a master mechanic and particularly enjoyed restoring vintage equipment and classic Ford cars - indeed he took great pride in these projects. There wasn't anything Papa couldn't fix, and he was always ready and willing to help out friends and family. No job was too small and he was always patient, meticulous and generous with his time.
Papa was a die hard Montreal Canadiens fan. He was also an avid baseball fan and follower of the Montreal Expos, and later, the Toronto Blue Jays. He prided himself on his flower garden and his tomatoes and his potatoes. Throughout his life, he enjoyed the companionship of the many family pets. The meetings with his many buddies at the coffee shop was a weekly highlight and the lively discussions there identified and fixed many a world problem. Papa looked forward to family dinners with everyone gathered round his table, always enjoying the well-prepared food and good company. He was a devout Catholic all his life and attended Sunday Mass as long as he was able.
The family would like to thank the staff at West Park Manor for their care and attention.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg with Rev. Msgr. Maurice Comeault, PH, presiding. Interment will take place at a later date.
Chris, Dave and Amy Ingram, Dan Caron, Ron Caron and Karen Taillieu are honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I am so sorry to read and understand the loss of your dear Father, Anna, Claudette and Yvonne. You were all devoted to your father, Aime, and may his memory be for a blessing, always. Aime Caron used to run Arctic Cat snow mobiles and let us have a ride or drive them on the river at the bottom of St. Charles Street. What a lovely family you all were together. I would love to get in touch with Anna if possible. Thank-you, Karen Fraser Brook, Victoria, B.C. - Posted by: Karen Fraser Brook (school friend with Anna Caron, lived at 400 St. Charles while young.) on: Jul 17, 2020

  • I was saddened to hear of his passing. Although I haven't seen him in a long time, I used to enjoy dropping in on him, at his home in Charleswood, unexpected, when I came to town. I have many fond memories of when I stayed at the house on St. Charles Street...one of which was trying on clothes that were too small and prancing down the hallway with my shoulders back and chest out!..Claudette and Yvonne will remember, or getting him to help me with my car or advise on heavy equipment. He lived a wonderful full life but it is still sad that he is gone. - Posted by: Penny Pringle Fehr (Family Friend) on: Feb 09, 2020

  • What a life well lived! I remember Mom and Dad speaking often about Amie and Odile - I believe they were next door neighbours on Oakdale. I also remember hearing about the Caron girls. My condolences to you all. It sounds like you were blessed to have him in your lives for so long. Joan Flood, Toronto - Posted by: Joan Flood (Daughter of Pat & Kay Flood) on: Feb 05, 2020
