LOVEY WACHNIAK

On March 6, 2020, Lovey Wachniak passed away peacefully at age of 87, after a long illness.
Lovey is survived by her son Terry, daughter Victoria and Rick Preston; Jule Henderson; grandchildren, Jared (Apryl), Audrey (Stuart), Steve; great-grandchildren, Calvin, Brayden, Mikenna and Jordan. She also leaves behind sister Doreen, brother Michael (Janet), as well as many other family and friends. Lovey was predeceased by her husband Walter, on December 19, 2012.
Deep thank you goes out to Jo-Ann Jensen for the tireless and loving care she provided to Lovey and her family in the last months. Jo was a real gift in helping Lovey live with the challenges that come with dementia. May God bless you.
Born in Poplarfield, MB, on December 11, 1932. She was one of ten children born to Michael and Victoria Lapka. She married Walter Wachniak on June 5, 1954.
For years Lovey worked as manager for Salisbury House. After retiring, she served some of Winnipeg's finest hotdogs at the Wachniak Auction house. Lovey was there to greet her hungry and eager customers with her smile and delicious wares.
Lovey was an honest, generous, fun-loving woman. She had an amazing sense of humour that made us laugh until the end. Lovey and Wally's door was always open to everyone with great food and plenty of drink ready to go around. She will be missed more than words can express.
The family would like to thank all of Lovey's caregivers at Poseidon Care Centre, her home care workers, and medical staff.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020, at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 433 Main St., Stonewall, MB. Interment to follow at Poplarfield Community Cemetery, Poplarfield, MB. Thank you Father Maximiuk for presiding.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lovey's memory to the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Poplarfield, MB. R0C 2N0.

Together Again.

  • I'm so sorry to hear of Auntie Lovey leaving this planet only to embark on a new beginning. A very beautiful Auntie you are. I remember mine and Donna's wonderful visits to see you, filled with ice cream treats and the fun we had on your green wooden swing in your yard. I can still see it clear as day. I will miss you Auntie...and thank you for the wonderful memories we shared!...till me meet again. - Posted by: Conni Gagnon (Niece) on: Dec 19, 2021
