NICHOLAS KONIAK
January 15, 1933 - March 29, 2020

Peacefully on the evening of Sunday, March 29, 2020, Nicholas passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital, Winnipeg, MB, at the age of 87.
Nick was born on January 15, 1933, and was raised in Gardenton, Manitoba. Along with his parents and siblings he tended to the family farm until he became of age to be on his own. He then moved to Winnipeg and found employment at CP Rail as a timekeeper. After leaving CP Rail he began his long career working at Quinton's (Perth's) Cleaners until his retirement.
On June 4, 1955, Nick was married to his beloved wife Doris, who he met at a dance in Rosa, MB. They went on to have three beautiful children that they raised together until Doris's death in 1982. Doris was forever in Nick's heart and was sadly missed. After the loss of his wife he was blessed to find his special friend, Nettie Senchuk, who was by his side for many years to come. He especially loved travelling to Mexico with Nettie.
One of Nick's greatest joys in life was his family which he was very proud of. He treasured the times when he could have them all together for a meal. He always had a sparkle in his eye when his grandchildren were around, especially when they would fight over his famous dill pickles.
True to his upbringing Nick loved to be outdoors. He had a wonderful green thumb and could grow anything - which was evident in his immaculate yard which sported an array of exquisite flowers and shrubs. His tiny garden was filled to the brim with raspberries and many vegetables that he loved to share with his family. You could quite often see Nick sitting beneath his cherry tree in the back yard, especially when his health began to fail.
Nick had a love for watching sports, especially wrestling and baseball. As he watched wrestling he used to chuckle and comment "how can they do that without getting hurt".
Nick was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Lena Koniak, his brothers, John and William (Lee) Koniak, his sister Lena Sokoliwski, his wife Doris, and son Michael, as well as four siblings who died as children.
He leaves to treasure his memory, his son Dennis Koniak, daughter Carol (Kevin) Bride, daughter-in-law Pat Koniak, grandchildren, Heather (Ryan), Jordan, Amanda, Samantha (Jesse), sister-in-law Mary Koniak, his special friend Nettie Senchuk, as well as many other friends and family members.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their excellent care during Nick's stay. We would also like to thank those who offered their support and help throughout this difficult time.

Dad you are in the arms of the angels.
Your struggles are now over. Be at peace
and say hello to Mom and Mike for us.
Until we meet again.

Due to the COVID virus, a private family graveside service will be held. A memorial service will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
