ROSE ROSTEK
May 24, 1914 - April 4, 2020
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph; sons, Bernard and Lawrence. She is survived by her son Russell (Arlene); daughters-in-law, Blanche and Eva; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jeff (Teresa, Katherine and Alison), David (Cindy, Braiden and Jaylee), Darell (Lisa and Dean), Bradley (Lisa, Riley and Logan), Marnie (Mario, Matthew and Renee), Mark (Chrissy and Rayne), Jason (Christy, Bailey and Olivia), Erin (Dean and Kyle). She is also survived by her brother Joe. She also leaves many nieces and nephews who hold a special place in her heart.
Mom was born and raised in Meleb, MB. She married her husband Joe, and together they raised their three sons in Camp Morton, MB. After moving to Winnipeg, Mom took care of her sister-in-law Lizzie, and her dad.
Mom had a strong faith in God and was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, where she belonged to the Catholic Women's League.
Mom was a very social person, loved dancing, playing cards with the ladies of Fred Douglas Lodge, which was her home for many years. She was known for the beautiful comforters she made, and shared with her family and friends. Mom volunteered at Fred Douglas Lodge and The Maples Care Home, where she helped with church services. Mom's favourite words at the end of a conversation were God Bless, love you.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the staff and caregivers at Fred Douglas Lodge.
Due to the current health crisis a private family graveside service has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In Memory of a Dear Grandma
It's always sad but comforting
to silently recall
Your smile and dear familiar face
So loved by one and all.
For the world may keep turning
And change from day to day
But precious memories of you
will never fade away
and here's hoping that this message
which carries so much love,
will find its way to heaven up above.
It's to let you know dear Grandma,
that although you are at rest,
You'll live forever in the hearts
of those who loved you best.

Met Rose when we visited my brother Robert at Fred Douglas Lodge. She was always smiling and always watched out for my brother, reporting whether he ate his meals or not. Always a friendly greeting! Thank you Rose! - Posted by: Irene (Friend) on: Apr 15, 2020

I met Rose a few years ago when I started visiting my mother in law at Fred Douglas Lodge. Rose would always stop and visit with us and share different experiences and life stories. A beautiful, wise and strong lady, I loved visiting with her. RIP Mrs. Rostek ❤️ - Posted by: Joanna (Acquaintance) on: Apr 13, 2020

Aunt Rose was a beautiful lady. I remember when she used to sew my dresses. My mom alway wanted them below the knee. Aunt Rosie made them shorter then told my mom she ran out of material. Our deepest sympathies to the Rostek and extended families on the loss of a mom, grandmother and great grandmother. Will miss her laugh and smile. Rest in peace aunt Rose. You are now with Uncle Joe. Auntie Rosie and Auntie Lena together would call and sing happy birthday. It always ended with love you and they would hang up the phone. It was always the most special part of that day. Love you - Posted by: Gordy Reichert (Great auntie) on: Apr 11, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we say good bye to Rose. Our family met Rose at FDL when our Mom, Victoria, became a resident on the Spruce Unit. We are so very grateful to Rose for her care and patience guiding our Mom who has dementia to the dining room, and other activities planned on the monthly calendar. Also, every Tuesday morning Rose would take our Mom to the Chapel to say the Rosary. The two of them spent many evening hours visiting and playing cards. It is our understanding that some evenings they would laugh so hard together they would cry. There is a saying, “To All the World You May Be One Person, But to One Person You May Be the World”. Rose was” The World” to our Mom. Our family came to know what a truly special person she was. We all loved Rose dearly and will miss seeing her friendly, welcoming smile at FDL. Rest in peace Rose. God Bless. With all our love, The Tynski Family - Posted by: Tynski family (Friend to Rose) on: Apr 11, 2020

Rose was our neighbour since the early 80's. We called her "Mama Rose". Even when we weren't neighbours we always kept in touch with her - she taught us how to make pierogies and lemon pie. We always enjoyed our times together and especially her kind heart and she will be greatly missed by us. Sending our condolences to the family. I've known Rose practically all my life. She and my mother Dolores Peterson became and remained friends till the end. She was the person I visited after my mum died. She had a cheery disposition and a quick wit. In the last few years she preferred not to go out so we would call to make a date. What would you like? Chinese would be ok. She had a good appetite. After that we'd walk around the lodge and wave to everyone like the queen she was. The last time we played shuffleboard. Well, a cross between shuffle board and bowling. She loved us both and her passing is a big loss to us. Love you Rose. Thanks for the quilt. - Posted by: Karin Peterson and Steve Killeen (Friend) on: Apr 11, 2020
