OLGA KASIAN

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Olga Kasian, on Friday, April 17, 2020.
She leaves to mourn her sons, Dennis (Vivian) and Donald (Gillian); and her grandchildren, Laura and Melissa (Ryan), and Chloe and Anika; and two great-grandchildren, Casey and Everett. She also leaves to mourn numerous sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husband, Walter; granddaughter, Alize Kasian; parents, William and Maria Salamandyk; sisters, Anne, Margaret and Violet; and brothers, John and Peter.
Olga was born at Carlowrie, Manitoba on January 7, 1925. In her early years, she was a teacher in one room schools in Rosa, Tolstoi and Woodmore. She later taught grade three in the St. James School Division, at Bannatyne and Crestview schools, for a period of 20 years, retiring in 1981.
Olga was a founding and active member of the St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic Church, and an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League.
Olga enjoyed family. Large family gatherings were common at her house, and no one ever went hungry. In her retirement, her pastime was painting. Many people have a work of art on their wall with Olga's signature. She also enjoyed fishing, camping and travelling.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Lions Manor for their dedication and compassionate care for Olga for the past three years. She enjoyed her time there, but most of all, appreciated the kindness of the caregivers.
Following restrictions set for Covid-19, a private service has been held.

  • We knew Olga and Walter (Wally) as parishioners of St. Josaphat's parish and went caroling with them; what a joyful and blessed time! A memory to cherish! May Olga rest in peace! A gentle and lovely lady of grace whom we've known for her faith and her unfaltering faith of Christ, the Blessed Mother, UCWLC and especially her patron Saint Olga. From the grassroots of Carlowrie in SE MB. to Winnipeg she has left a legacy as a teacher. wife, mother, and long-time parishioner of St. Josaphat's. Olga has folded her hands for the last time and now taken into the arms of our Lord and the Blessed Mother of God. We pray our Lord will grant her eternal rest and peace in heaven where there is no pain, no sorrow, suffering, or sighing but life ever-lasting. With heartfelt condolences and prayers, Rev. Deacon Leon and Dobr. Olga Twerdun - Posted by: Deacon Leon & Dobr. Olga Twerdun (Acquaintance ) on: Apr 25, 2020
