JOSEPH MARK OSTROWSKI
January 2, 1944 - June 6, 2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Joseph Mark Ostrowski after a short illness.
Predeceased by his father Kazimierz, mother Anna, and his son Ronald.
Survived by his wife Grace (nee Slawinski), of 52 years, son Jason and partner Tanja, grandson Jaden Ostrowski, and sister Stefie.
Joe immigrated from Poland to Canada as a teenager, making the journey on his own. We often heard the story how he arrived in Canada, with a total of five dollars in his pocket.
He learned a new language, finished high school, entered apprenticeship, and sometime thereafter became a journeyman electrician.
Joe was a retired member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local union 2085. During his career he travelled all over northern Manitoba, working on hydroelectric projects during the 1970s and 1980s. Over the years, he fondly shared many stories of his colleagues and friends that he made during this time.
Joseph was very active in the Winnipeg Polish community, and a member of the Canadian Polish Professionals Business Association. He was also a proud member of the Holy Ghost Parish, serving on the executive board, and volunteering much of his time throughout the years. During the construction of the new Holy Ghost church in 1987, he formed a lifelong friendship with Fr. Chris Pulchny. Also, special thanks to Fr. Maciej Pajak.
Joe was a devout Catholic, and a dedicated family man. He had a great love for gardening, together with his wife Grace. They both spent countless hours in the yard throughout the summers, planting flowers, doing improvements around the house, and enjoying the outdoors.
His other love was soccer, he would often would get up in the middle of the night to watch various matches from Europe, especially during playoffs.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 11 at Holy Ghost Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue at 10:00 a.m.
Gravesite service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Cemetery.
For those not able to attend the Church service due to current restrictions, Mass will also be live streamed on the Holy Ghost Parish website, and on Holy Ghost Parish YouTube channel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Ghost Parish in Joseph's memory.

"It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home"

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My belated condolences to the family. I was fortunate to be in Joe's grade X11 class. We had a very friendly class and everyone got alone together. I remember Joe quite well. He was one of the more serious students in the class. To immigrate to a new country, learn a hard language and finish high school shows the dedication Joe had. Rest in Peace. - Posted by: Colin Dederick (classmate) on: Apr 08, 2021

  • Our deepest condolences to Grace, Jason and family! Joe will be missed by us All! And will live in all our memories! We were the youngest pair of ushers at their wedding! Joe always was ready to help and give good life advice. To the children he said to always give 110%! of everything they do! WE kept in touch even when we moved to Calgary in 1983. We will always cherish our visits and many parties at Joe and Grazyna! Joe was a t bone steak specialist, we are still enjoying his hand written marinade recipe! Joe may GOD grant you Eternal rest and peace! - Posted by: Jerry&Sophie Dziech (Friends since 1965) on: Jun 10, 2020
