ELLIE PETKAU
Predeceased by her husband, John George Petkau, in 2015; lovingly remembered by her sons, Randy (Melody), Brent (Christine), Mark and Chris; grandchildren, Jena (Simon), Ben and Haley (Levi), Jonathan (Crystal), Josh and Rachel; great-grandchildren, Sofia and Alora; foster children, Cathy, Derelda and Irene (passed); brothers, Arthur, Harry, Dick Braun (passed); and many nieces and nephews.
Born on February 6, 1937, in Rathwell, Manitoba, she moved with her family to Winnipeg, MB when she was a child. She worked as a secretary after secondary school, until she married John in 1957. Ellie was a profoundly caring person, and talented artistically, painting almost all her life using oils and watercolour. Her love for art and creation extended to teaching others to love and create art. She especially loved to teach children, working individually and in classroom settings at several Hutterite colonies. She was a member of several artist collectives, and her art is displayed in many locations. She also showed her creative gifts through sewing, gardening, decorating and baking. She created a warm and welcoming environment at the farm, and over the years shared her special brand of hospitality with everyone who came to visit. Those who met Ellie experienced her love and attention.
A funeral service for Ellie will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, August 24, 2020, at Oakville Cemetery, 2.5 miles north of Oakville. The family wishes this to be safe for all, and ask that we practice social distancing. Please bring your own lawn chairs if you desire to be seated, and an umbrella may be helpful to protect from the sun.
