HEATHER DAWN PROST
(nee DERKSEN)
She will also be sorely missed by her brother Rick (Gladys) Derksen; sisters, Marlene Sobering and Carol (Reg) Harder; and Norm's brothers and sisters, Ken (Liz), Gerry (Darlene), Gordon, Marlene (Vic) Naworynski, Bev (Gerald) Kornelson, and Fran (Fraser) Kulba, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Helen Derksen, brother-in-law Doug Sobering, nephew Brett Sobering; and mother and father-in-law, Gertie and Stan Prost.
Born on February 7, 1961, Heather lived her entire life in Steinbach graduating from Steinbach Regional Secondary School. She loved her job at Derksen Printers where she was employed for 41 years in the graphic arts department until she became ill.
Heather was a kind and loving person who enjoyed the simple things in life and being out with family and friends. She loved shopping, taking hours to pick out just the right thing. She loved going out for breakfast on Saturday with her siblings and going out for suppers with the girls from work. Heather enjoyed road trips and travelling to Mexico with her daughter and sisters, deciding that Los Cabos had the best desserts. She just loved and adored Kate and was always open to Kate bringing home unusual and interesting pets which she would help lovingly care for. Her dog Soko was always waiting for her at the door.
Together, Norm and Heather would go for drives finding the most interesting places along the way. Whenever someone would mention a new restaurant, you could be sure Norm had already taken Heather there.
The last few years had been a challenge for Heather as she battled with cancer. She never complained throughout her treatments. When her cancer returned, the complications that came with it were just too hard to overcome.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and all the caregivers at the Health Sciences Centre and the Bethesda Regional Hospital for their care during this difficult time.
At Heather's request, no formal service will be held.
A Poem for Heather
Good night Heather, good night.
We will all miss you,
especially husband Norm and
daughter Katelyn.
Our faith in God will carry us through
And you will be in a safe place with
Mom and Dad
Two shining stars will guide you to
their place in heaven.
Someday our family will meet again at Falcon Lake for potato salad and farmer sausage,
Good night, good night sweet Heather
You'll always be in our hearts.

I worked with Heather for 24 years. She was always kind and considerate. I’m not sure if she was able to frown but I never saw one on her face. Norm, Rick and family, I’m so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Alvin Derksen (Former coworker ) on: Jan 03, 2021

So sorry, Katelyn! I remember your mom as always cheerful and smiling. She put up with your amazing ideas and wild antics with a laugh. Her embarrassment over your tell-all-tales was way less than her fierce love and pride she had for you. I can't imagine the loss you must be feeling right now. My thoughts are with you, Mary Jo - Posted by: Mary Jo Isaac (Katelyn's childhood caregiver) on: Sep 10, 2020
