ELEONORA KUCZKOWSKA
(nee GALEZOWSKA)
December 26, 1926 – September 8, 2020

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Eleonora, affectionately known as Babcia Ela, on September 8, 2020 at the age of 93 in Winnipeg, MB.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jadwiga Krupka and Lech Galezowski and his wife Grazyna, grandchildren, Daniel Krupka, Andrea Krupka, Dr. Angelica Galezowski (Kevin Stahl) and Matthew Galezowski, and her two great-granddaughters, Eloise Stahl and Yvonne Stahl.
Eleonora was born on December 26, 1926 in New York City, USA. In 1929, her family immigrated back to Poland and settled in the town of Edwardowka, northeast of Lwow, Ukraine. During the Second World Ware in 1940, her entire family was deported to Siberia where sadly, her mother Henryka, grandmother Katarzyna and older brother Alexander perished.
After six years in Siberia, Eleonora returned to Poland as part of the repatriation program with the Polish government, where she was able to locate her father, Filip Galezowski, a soldier in the Polish Army. Once reunited, they eventually settled in Silesia (Slask, Poland). In 1970, Eleonora along with her children Jadwiga and Lech immigrated to Canada and joined her father Filip and wife Marianna who immigrated four years earlier and called Winnipeg their home.
She worked at the garment factory for many years, and eventually retired in 1992 to enjoy life with her children and grandchildren. Eleonora loved playing cards (especially tysiac), picking wild mushrooms, enjoying spending time with her family and was a devout Catholic and member of the Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church. In November 2019, she received the Siberian Cross from the Polish government.
Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff on 3A floor at Holy Family Nursing Home for their compassion and wonderful dedication to our mother/Babcia.
Viewing and prayers will be held on Tuesday September 15, 2020, at 9:30 a.m. at the Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. followed by Mass of Christian Burial with the Oblate Father officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Holy Ghost Church or a charity of your choice.
