URSULA GOERES
September 14, 1953 - September 11, 2020
Ursula is survived by her children, Erin Goeres, DPhil (Rob), Patrick Goeres, MD, and Caitlin Goeres, DVM (Chris), as well as her grandchildren, Rosa and Polly.
Ursula was born in Russell, MB, the only child of Margaret and Roy Hassett. At the age of 16, Ursula moved to Winnipeg to attend the University of Manitoba, graduating with an LLB in 1976.
Ursula articled with Walsh Micay and studied under Harry Walsh, QC and Greg Brodsky, QC. She practiced with Walsh Micay before moving to the Legal Services Department at the City of Winnipeg. She was appointed City Solicitor in 1995, retiring in 2008. She returned to private practice with Brodsky & Company in 2011.
Outside of work, Ursula enjoyed exploring Manitoba's many provincial parks and wild spaces. She was a keen orienteer, runner, skier, and gardener. She also enjoyed travelling with her family and visiting her kids and grandkids.
A celebration of Ursula's life will be hosted, by her children, at a later date. In the meantime, Ursula's family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by visiting her tribute page at EthicalDeathCare.com. A photo-biography, as well as memories and stories published by those who knew her, are available there.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Assiniboine Park Conservancy or to Orienteering Canada.

How sad to learn of Ursula's untimely passing. Ursula was the City Solicitor during much of my time as a member of Council. I always enjoyed working with her on various issues. She provided sound and sage legal advice on many of the issues we faced as a city government and was a valued public servant. May she rest in peace. Condolences to Ursula's family in their time of loss and sorrow. - Posted by: Jae Eadie (former city councillor) on: Sep 19, 2020
