WAYNE LAWRENCE TONY SKIRZYK
November 4, 1944 - September 29, 2020

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Skirzyk, in the Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 75 years.
Wayne is survived by wife of 54 years, Elaine Donna Judith (Musick); sons, Paul (Patricia) and Jason (Kristin); and grandchildren, Arielle, Sacha, Addison, Eden, Tara, and Aiden. He was predeceased by his mother Anne (1983), youngest brother Stacey and sister Delores.
Wayne was born in Winnipeg and raised in Atikokan, Ontario, moving back to Winnipeg's North End in 1956. He attended Sisler High School, joined the Canadian Military Signal Corps and owned and operated a school and bus service for the disabled. He worked for CP Rail, retiring in 1997, after becoming a Supervisor within the CP Customer Service Centre in Winnipeg. He was a third-degree lifetime member of the Fr. Filipow Council #8944, Knights of Columbus, and a lifetime member of the fourth Degree Canon Luhovy Assembly #0374. He also enjoyed his two pet dogs JO-JO and Digby, who were constant companions and were deeply missed upon their passing.

"Those that knew him, knew of him!"

In accordance with Wayne's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no Church service. There will be a private interment at a later date.

  • You have family, and you have friends and neighbors that are family. "Mr. Skirzyk" will always be like family to me. He tolerated (to a point) his front yard being midfield for our football games. He put up with the street hockey games and their inevitable brawls that would drag him and the other dads into the fray. And he probably turned a blinder eye than most to the contraband firecrackers, bottle rockets, and all sorts of mischief that Jason and I along with the rest of the boys on Madrigal Close would get ourselves into. Oh he'd bark at us when we rightly deserved it, but he never bit. In the end he was always kind to us... in his own unique way. And wow, could he cook! I'd always look forward to stopping in for a quick visit at Christmas to say hi, and not once would I leave hungry... or thirsty; he'd make sure of that. I'm really going to miss him. My love, thoughts and prayers go out to Elaine, Jason and Paul. - Posted by: Michael Rybak (the kid next door) on: Oct 05, 2020

  • A wave...a smile....a joke...a wisecrack...a helping hand to those that needed...a friendly chat...and so much more! This is the Wayne we remember from our years on the same street. A good neighbour...a good human. He lived a good life. We send our sincere condolences to you Elaine...and your family. It's hard to say good bye ... but it's harder to watch the suffering. May his memory always be a blessing to you and yours. So long Wayne... - Posted by: mary and grant hagman (neighbours) on: Oct 03, 2020

  • My sincere condolences on your loss. I pray that memories of happier times will see you through your time of grief! "God gave us memory so we might enjoy roses in winter." I knew Wayne as the father of Paul, who played hockey and football for me in his youth. He was a gentleman and good person, and will be missed. - Posted by: Bob Strong (Acquaintance) on: Oct 03, 2020
