EDWARD EUGENE DANYLCHUK
March 6, 1936 September 30, 2020
Ed was born in Winnipeg on March 6, 1936. He and his younger brother, Bernard, were the children of John and Bernice Danylchuk.
Ed was an active child who took a great interest in sports. In 1955 and 1956, Ed played for the Winnipeg Rods Football Club, helping the team to become Canadian Junior Champions and for which he, and the team, were twice (1996, 2009) inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.
After Ed's parents moved to California in 1956, he married the love of his life, Marjorie McDougall in 1957. They had four children: Bruce, Sandy, Doug and Sharon.
Ed's interest in sports was soon eclipsed by his strong business and entrepreneurial spirit. He and Marge had established Crossroads Oils, and Ed was the proprietor of several Pacific 66/Tempo gas stations, along with growing a successful trucking business, and investing in car dealerships, including Lone Star Mercedes-Benz in Winnipeg.
In 1981, Ed established Peterbilt Manitoba as Manitoba's first full-service Peterbilt truck dealership. In 1987, he also acquired Calgary Peterbilt, and with the help of his close friend and respected operating partner, Doug Fach, the business grew to include locations in Red Deer, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat, and is now known as Peterbilt of Southern Alberta.
Ed had enjoyed riding motorcycles (primarily Harley-Davidson), and he and Marge opened Lone Star Harley-Davidson in Winnipeg in 1995. They both experienced many exciting motorcycle trips together. Ed was also a long-time member of the Manitoba Masonic Order and Khartum Shriners. He enjoyed the camaraderie of being part of the Shriners Motor Patrol and The Royal Order of Jesters.
In his later years, Ed travelled the world extensively with Marge, including many visits to San Diego, and spending time hunting and fishing with friends, and enjoying coffees at Sals.
More recently, Ed took a keen interest in collecting classic cars and loved hearing the auction hammer fall on his bid at a variety of car auctions.
Ed and Marge also became known for their philanthropy. In 2015, Ed and Marge made a generous contribution to the Grace Hospital. The Danylchuks had been major donors to the Grace Hospital Foundation for more than a decade. In acknowledgement of their unprecedented generosity, the new Emergency Department at the Grace Hospital was named the Edward and Marjorie Danylchuk Centre, and the new diagnostic imaging facility was named the Edward and Marjorie Danylchuk MRI Building.
Another cause close to Ed's heart, that Ed and Marge supported, was Diabetes Canada. Ed enjoyed attending the Diabetes Canada Best Banting Gala in Winnipeg every year, helping to raise funds to ensure children with diabetes did not miss out on attending the diabetes summer D camp in Lake of the Woods, ON.
Ed was predeceased by his mother and father, John (1978) and Bernice (2007).
He is survived by his loving wife Marge; son Bruce, wife Pam (Olivia (Julio), Ryan (Lisa, Taylor), John (Monica, great-granddaughter Madeline); daughter Sandy, husband Barry MacTavish (Torrey (Zach), Jay); son Doug, wife Verna (Erin, Ian (Vianna, great-granddaughter Hazel)); daughter Sharon (Reyad, Yasmine, Kalid), partner Eric Roeder (Jack); Ed's brother Bernard, his son Toby and family, as well as his office sidekick, his beloved cat, Tango.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff at Grace Hospital and Deer Lodge Centre for the outstanding care they provided, and their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Russell Albak for his support during this difficult time. Ed was incredibly grateful for his constant concern.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Grace Hospital Foundation and/or Diabetes Canada. Donations to Diabetes Canada sent on behalf of Ed Danylchuk by contacting bestbantingsoiree@diabetes.ca will be used to send kids to summer D camp.
Due to current restrictions, only a private family service will be held at this time.

Our sincere condolences go out to Marge and the Danylchuk family on the loss of Ed. Our connection stems from a mutual love of classic vehicles. Ed took a shining to our beautiful red 55 Chevy Truck and we had the good fortune to meet and chat with Ed several times and he even invited us to view his beautiful collection. When we decided to part with the truck, we knew that it couldn't have gone to a better owner and new home. We had planned to meet with Ed in the future and were very saddened to hear of his passing. Even in the short amount of time that we new him, we sensed what a wonderful person he was. Please accept our deepest sympathies. We know that he will be sadly missed. - Posted by: Lloyd and Colleen Johnson (Acquaintances) on: Oct 18, 2020

I had the pleasure of knowing Ed for several years. He was a kind man. The twinkle in his eye always made me smile. A five dollar bet could’ve been 1 million and he still called and told us not to leave town. LOL! He loved his cars and he loved his wife very much. Sending sincere condolences to you Marge. I know just how much you meant to him. On one of his trips he brought me back a brown leather jacket. No idea where he bought it... I still haven’t worn it but maybe today is the day? He lived a great life filled with adventure and fun. It just won’t be the same without him. Sending love to all who were touched by Ed’s big heart and his spirit. Today will be tough. He deserved a large funeral as many people would have liked to have said good-bye properly. I’ll miss his genuine smile and laughter. Rest In Peace and blessings to Marge and the family. - Posted by: Pamela Wilke (Friend) on: Oct 07, 2020

Sincere condolences to Marge and the entire clan you were so caring of Eddie. I remember meeting up with you at your wedding day, so happy, smiling, carefree and just starting out on the great adventure with Marge. I recall her driving up in a brand new Thunderbird (you always were a car/vehicle guy)! Also many times meeting up with you and Marge at YVR in the Maple Leaf Lounge when you guys were in between flights to/from California. Another memory is when you and your entire family came out to Langley for our McDougall family reunion - Fun times. Eddie was definitely one of a kind and a survivor. Not much could hold that guy back. Lose a leg! Never mind, climb right back on a Harley! I could go on and on but now dear Eddie - Rest In Peace - a life well lived! - Posted by: Louise Graham (cousin to Marge) on: Oct 04, 2020

I only met Ed & Marge once in person, sitting between the two at a dinner with Sharon, Eric and Jack. They wanted to meet Eric's mother. I was in Winnipeg for my 1. memoir promotion. Ed had read the book, and he had many questions. He encouraged me to write book two and had me promise to let him know when I finished since he wanted to read it. Both, Ed and Marge left an indelible impression in my heart. Ed, on my right side, told me a lot of his life adventures and I got excited meeting such an incredible man. Marge, on my left, appeared a quiet woman in comparison to her husband. Someone made the comment that we looked kind of alike since we both wore black sweaters and pearls... After we had said 'goodbye,' on the parking lot, I ran over to Ed in his car and, through the window, gave him a hug and a little kiss on the cheek. He seemed totally surprised, and I never forgot his face, it still makes me smile today, thinking of it. I was anguished during the last few weeks when he was fighting for his life. How I wished I could do something for him, felt the pain Marge and Sharon were going through, and am relieved when I read that he fell asleep peacefully. The Marge & Ed Danylchuck additions to the Grace Hospital are a great reminder to 'share' and love thy neighbour. RIP, Ed. You are unforgettable. - Posted by: Giselle Roeder (Eric Roeder's Mom) on: Oct 03, 2020
