MALINDA THIESSEN

Malinda Thiessen was born to Cornelius L. Toews and Elizabeth Enns Toews on April 30, 1921 in Rosenort, Manitoba. She died on April 4, 2014, reaching the age of 92 years. She was the oldest in the family of eight children. While of school age, the family moved to various places while father taught school. As a youth, she worked "house-help" during threshing seasons and also in a printery.

On August 10, 1941, she married Cornelius H. Thiessen of Rosenort. In 1943, when the draft board called, he went as a conscientious objector, working at the Ninette T.B. Sanitorium as an orderly and driving the XRay van, while Malinda accompanied him. She worked in the dietary kitchen and as a nurses' aid for two years. In the summer of 1946, they moved to Sunnyslope, Alberta, where two daughters were born to them.

In 1953, Malinda went through a conversion experience where she received peace after confessing her sins. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ in Linden Alberta by Uncle Frank F. Hiebert.

They moved to Manitoba, settling in Steinbach. For 19 years, she looked after her father and helped with odd jobs, sewing, quilting, and babysitting. In April 1983, she moved to the Maplewood Manor suites until 2005, when she moved into full care there.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughters Mavis and Marlys, grandchildren: Chris (Lori) and Jayda; great-grandchildren Taylor and Nella, one brother Linden Toews (Blanche), sisters-in-law: Marlene Toews, Rhoda Regehr, and Agnes Toews; brothers-in-law John Isaac (Florence) and Edwin Bartel. She was predeceased by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.

The family wishes to thank the Maplewood Manor for the constant compassionate care they provided. Thank you to Dr. Ilchyna for caring for our mother. Thank you to mom's extended family for their concern and support for our mother over the years.

Viewing will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Loewen Blvd, Steinbach MB.
