JOAN VALARAIE STRIKE
(nee DOWSON)
October 27, 1932 - October 16, 2020

It is with heavy hearts and sadness the family announces the passing of Joan Valaraie Strike on October 16, 2020.
She will be deeply missed by daughter Kim Sabourin (Henri, grandson Kyle); son Craig Strike; granddaughter Mandy Beach, (Jesse, great-granddaughter Nora) and granddaughter Hayley Lambert. She is survived by sister Nancy Arsenault, and many nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by the love of her life, husband John of 53 years in 2006; her parents, George and Winifred Dowson; sister Doris Will (Eddy) and brother Ken Dowson; and in-laws, Peter Strykiwsky (Jean), Mary Calsbeck (John) and Billie Strykiwsky.
Joan was employed with Manitoba Health Services until her retirement in 1987 at which time her and John retired out at Seddon's Corner, MB. They were never happier than when they could host family/friend get togethers which included snowmobiling, fishing, golfing and the many great conversations around the bonfire.
Her children were the love of her life and her grandchildren always put a sparkle in her eye! After the loss of John, Joan returned to her home in the city that she shared with her treasured son Craig. She truly appreciated the care that Kim and Craig provided to her throughout these past few years.
Joanie's zest for life was never ending. She was an avid golfer and at age 82 played and walked her last 18-hole game. Many friends would refer to her as the "Energizer Bunny" as she would just keep going and going! She loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas with Kim, Odette, Audrey and her niece Barbara Morrison. All referred to as the "Four Musketeers". Odette Novog, her cherished friend, who she was so grateful to, for always being available when needed. Audrey Fushtey, her lifelong friend who created and shared many special memories over the years.
As dogs were always such an important part of her life (Norwegian Elkhounds and Cairn Terriers). Joan was a member of the Gateway Kennel Club as well as the Fort Garry Kennel Club. She was involved with many dog show events across Canada as well as the United States.

Kim: Mom … You were not only my
Mother, but my best friend and confidant!
You will ALWAYS be in my Heart!!

Craig: Mom … I will TRULY miss YOU and
our morning coffee chats!! I "Love You!!"

At Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to COVID restrictions no formal service will be held. A service will take place at a future date to allow family and friends to celebrate her life.
