Elzbieta Gartman, 73 years of age, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020, at Holy Family Nursing Home.
Elzbieta, affectionately known as Ela, was born July 27, 1947 in Bochnia, Poland to Stefan and Zofia Popiolek. She was the oldest of three daughters, and is survived by her two sisters, Misia Calka (Henyek Calka), Gosia Dembosz; and also by her mother, Zofia Popiolek. She was predeceased by her father, Stefan; and brother-in-law, Franek Dembosz. Elzbieta leaves to cherish her blessed memory her husband Art; her children, Chris Gartman (Christine Goodridge), Monica Chochinov (David Chochinov); and her grandchildren, Leeam, Aaron, Shaya, Shoshana and Chaya and Sarah Goodridge. She also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and friends.
Elzbieta immigrated to Winnipeg, MB in January 1970. She married Art Gartman on April 15, 1972. Together they raised two children, with love and deep faith in God. Ela devoted her life to her family and God. She worked for many years at various jobs until she and her husband became the proud owners of a picture framing business called Berch Frame Art. Ela used her creative energy to create beautiful pictures for her family and community, until she retired in 1995. Afterwards, she spent time devoted to the care of her beloved grandchildren. She was an incredibly proud and generous "Babcia", and never failed to tell her grandchildren how much she loved them. She took great care preparing holidays and special meals for her loved ones. In her later years, nothing brought Ela more joy than volunteering for the church. Volunteering to drive others to church, leading the fellowship of the rosary "Sodalicia Rozancowa" for over 15 years, fundraising for Radio Maria, praying in her free time, and celebrating birthdays at the "Royal Forks Buffet". She will always be remembered as a beacon of light and faith to her family and friends.
