GUNNAR POSTNICKS
March 2, 1931 - November 7, 2020

It is with deep sorrow we announce his passing after a five-month struggle with cancer.
He was born in Riga, Latvia and came to Canada at the age of 17. He worked and lived in Great Falls for the majority of his 38 years with Manitoba Hydro. His many interests included snowmobiling, hunting and fishing. He looked forward to spring where he would start his flowers, seedlings and get his honey bees ready. His red Cadillac was his favourite ride. The Lutheran Church Choir in Lac du Bonnet and the Masons were some of his other interests.
He is survived by his wife Laurie of 64 years; his five children, Debbie (David), Gail, Kelly (Heather), Danny (Alison) and Brenda; 11 grandchildren, Tony, Tim, Chris, Stephanie (Greg), Nelson, Emily, Hunter, Laura, David (Samm), Paul and Michelle (Ashley); and three great-grandchildren, Zenon, Zofia and Arlo.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gerges, the nurses and staff at Pine Falls Primary Health Centre for taking such good care of our dad.
Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid restrictions a private service will take place at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Dear Uncle Gunnar enjoyed life to the full. His love of the outdoors and all his hobbies including smoking goldeye and tending his own honey bees benefit all of us who received them as gifts. Our deepest sympathy to Aunt Laurie and to all the family. Love Ingrid and Rick Zebinski and family. - Posted by: Ingrid Zebinski (Niece) on: Nov 21, 2020

  • Met Gunnar a few times over the years at MH. Sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Jim Caron (Acquaintance) on: Nov 16, 2020

  • My condolences to Gunner's wife and family. - Posted by: Fred Meads (Former co-worker) on: Nov 15, 2020

  • I had the privilege of meeting Gunnar on one of my trips to Manitoba to research the history of Latvians in the province. He was gracious and shared a number of photographs, two of which I included in the book. Gunnar was proud of his Latvian roots and purchased several books to gift to his family. "Paldies" / Thank you! As we would say in Latvian, "Vieglas smiltis un saldu dusu" / Light sand and sweet rest. - Posted by: Viesturs (Ves) Zarins (Latvian acquaintance from the Toronto area) on: Nov 15, 2020

  • We were very saddened to hear of Gunnar’s passing. A great guy who was a true pleasure to be around. Gunnar and Laurie were life long friends of Joyce’s parents so it was easy for us to continue that friendship. Save a beer for me Gunnar. God Bless and keep you.
