DONALD FRANK DILLISTONE
July 16, 1934 - November 15, 2020
Don is greatly missed by his wife Carolyn, daughters, Jean (Kevin), and Eve (Sam), grandchildren, Dylan, Katrina and Jack, brother and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
Don was born in Winnipeg, the third of four brothers, and grew up in Brandon. He graduated in 1956 from Brandon College (BA) while working at the CKX TV station as a technician. He spent the next year hitch-hiking through Europe and meeting relatives in England.
He settled in Winnipeg, where he began his career as a financial analyst in the research department of James Richardson & Sons. Throughout his career, he was a Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Market Technician, making many global business trips, and writing newsletters, a daily early morning newsletter for the firm, as well as doing charts and speaking engagements. He acted as a manuscript reviewer for the CMA Journal. He was a member of IDA and CSTA.
Don was a devoted family man, witty and generous, with a strong moral compass to guide him and his family. He played bridge and chess, skied, curled regularly and in bonspiels, enjoyed the theater, spent time at the cottage, canoed, hiked trails and walked miles with the family dogs.
He was a lifelong sports fan and the TV channel was usually on a game, race, or news. On trips, the car radio would be tuned to a game. Football was his favourite and he attended Grey Cups when he could.
He became proficient on the computer over the years, starting with a Commodore 64 computer and sprocket printer, which we daughters used for typing out our school assignments. He programmed using MSDos for work and pleasure, and we recall fondly the program paired to our local grocery store, in which our selected items were organized into a printed listing by aisle number. He found Sherlock Holmes in early life and read avidly. Later, he belonged to the local Bisons club, the Toronto Bootmakers, and composed a limerick for each of the 56 short stories. He helped begin Hounds of the Internet. He regularly read Omni and the Atlantic and followed space exploration.
The family thanks the staff of Golden Links Lodge for their care and kindness, as well as Voyage Funeral Home for their guidance.
Cremation has taken place and a family memorial will be held next summer.
Don is dearly missed.
But O for the touch of a vanished hand, And the sound of a voice that is still

I am saddened to learn of Don's passing. My sincere condolences to you - Carolyn, Jean and Eve - and to your families. While it has been a few years since I last saw him, I will always remember his presence at our annual summer performances when we were children oh so long ago, walking his dogs and tending the grounds. I believe he is at peace and I hope that, in time, his memory will comfort and sustain you. Please be strong, continue to be well and stay safe. - Posted by: Diane Koenig (Clear Lake neighbour) on: Dec 05, 2020

My condolences to the Dillistone family. Don was my hero when we worked at Richardson Securities/Richardson Greenshields between 1969 and 1986. He was known back then as one Canada's top technical analysts. Don was my mentor: Because of his passion for technical analysis, I followed his prompting after Richardson Greenshield moved from Winnipeg to Toronto in 1986, started offering technical analysis services, eventually became President of CSTA and to this day offer a daily technical analysis letter. Thank you, Don for your support and guidance. - Posted by: Don Vialoux (Friend) on: Nov 29, 2020

Sorry to hear of Don's passing. I know these last years have been difficult ones for you all. But even though one knows in one's gut that the inevitable will happen, it's still heart-wrenching. We can always remember Don arriving at the lake in that red MG, clearing weeds from the stonework across the road from us, walking the various dogs from over the years........ Our thoughts are certainly with you. Sue and Norm Bilodeau - Posted by: Sue and Norm Bilodeau (friends and Clear Lake neighbors) on: Nov 28, 2020
