DAN W. LABAY

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, relative and friend on Saturday, November 28, 2020.
Daniel was born in Winnipeg on May 23, 1939 and grew up in the North End where he finished school specializing in graphic arts, and eventually attained his dream job of working as a professional Graphic Artist for the DND at 17 Wing in Winnipeg. In 1963 he married his beloved sweetheart, Pauline (Bobee) and in the coming years started their family of three children whom he loved greatly. Daniel happily retired after 30 plus years with the DND where he was surrounded by his greatest passion of aircraft. The next 20 plus years he devotedly helped Pauline prosper her home based ceramic business. Dan's many passions included carpentry, where he utilized his skills and talents to design and build their family home ceramic shop and gazebo on their property in Headingley, which in turn greatly inspired his children. He also loved gardening, the outdoors, camping, fishing and most importantly gathering with friends and family for any and all occasions to share stories and laughs where his infectious smile and sense of humour dominated every room.
A great man that had a great life. Daniel will always be missed and loved by his wife Pauline; sons, Darryl (Mariela) and Daniel; grandsons, Wiley and Dylan and their father Dan. He was predeceased by his daughter Daria (2010) and brother Ray (2017).
Virtual service will be held on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 1:00 p.m., on Facebook, YouTube or through the Saint Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church website: www.saintbasilwpg.ca. Father Mykhaylo Khomitskyy officiating.

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • We shall never forget our many visits while we were in Winnipeg in 1998/99 at your Headingly home. Our prayers to all the family for the loss of Dan, a special happy person who was there for everybody. Your genuine kindness & friendship during our loss helped get us through our sadness. The boccie ball tournaments that were quite extensive & fun, your generous sharing of dinners that were out of this world. My husband, Jim, an only child was so grateful to experience life with the large family we had & the time we had together with Dan & Pauline & other members of the Bobee family. We still remember all of you & wish we could have continued the closeness we shared during those days. Our love to Pauline & family & know that Dan is in heavenly hands. - Posted by: Jim & Bonnie Hester (Cousins) on: Dec 11, 2020
