GIOVANNA (JEAN) CARMELA ELIASS
(nee CANTAFIO)
Giovanna was born on June 12, 1928, in Transcona, eldest of five children. She worked at Canada West Shoe Factory before she married, then later moved to a home with farm land on Henderson Highway. Giovanna was a hard worker, and worked in her huge garden and also worked for local farmers picking their crops. She would spend hours canning in the fall, and loved to cook and bake and was very good at it. She always had a smile on her face, never complained or asked for anything and always grateful for what she had. Giovanna was a kind and giving person. She had lived at the Middlechurch Personal Care Home since 2014.
Giovanna was predeceased by her parents Antonia and Francesco Cantafio, sisters Mattea Altomare and Gilda Porco, brothers Tommaso Cantafio and George A. Cantafio in infancy, brothers-in-law Carmine Altomare and Gabriele Porco, sister-in-law Ann Cantafio and nephews Frank Altomare and Harry Bakema.
Giovanna leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her son Darren, her nieces Roseanna Bakema and Gina Calesso (Renato) and nephew Christopher Calesso, nephews Blair (Suzanne) Cantafio, Dale (Gretchen) Cantafio and family, Brent (Sonia) Cantafio and family and numerous cousins in Winnipeg, Vancouver, the United States and Italy.
We would like to thank all the staff on the second floor of Unit D at Middlechurch Personal Care Home for the kindness and care they gave Giovanna over the past six years.
A private family service will take place. Family and friends may watch service livestreamed on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. through Giovanna's obituary page on:

My deepest condolences to Darren and Aunty Jean’s family at this difficult time. I cherished my time spent in Narol where I could visit with so many cousins, aunties and uncles all living within miles of our grandparents home.
