LARRIE CHARLES PUSHKA
June 17, 1945 - December 17, 2020

With shattered hearts, we announce the passing of Larrie Pushka, age 75, in Winnipeg.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Florence; daughter Amara (Christian); son Nolan (Denise); grandchildren, Bennett, Natalie, Spencer and Felix; brother Clinton (Brenda); mother Stella and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Paul in 1987.
Larrie was born in Russell and grew up on the family farm in Angusville. After finishing school, he operated Angusview Farms, alongside his father and brother. His strong work ethic ensured every job before him was done right, making him the perfect business partner.
He loved farm life and was dedicated to his family. He was a truly exceptional father and husband, always giving the best of himself and providing his children with every opportunity.
He was very active in the community, volunteering with the fire department and serving on numerous Boards. He loved the outdoors, and spent many summers camping at Rossman Lake, working on his golf game and enjoying extended family gatherings. In winter, he could often be found curling, bowling, or later in life, ice-fishing.
In 2008, Larrie and Florence made a big move and retired to Headingley to be closer to their children. Their timing was great because grandchildren started arriving shortly thereafter. The title of "grandpa" brought Larrie much joy.
While in Headingley, he and Florence quickly got to know their neighbours and made connections through their church and new community. To escape the Manitoba weather, they became snowbirds, spending winters in Texas or Arizona.
When he wasn't on the go, Larrie took pride in maintaining his yard and garden, and worked casually at Headingley Community Centre. He also was a constant fixture at his son and daughter's houses – providing his much-appreciated, self-taught expertise to numerous home improvement projects.
Larrie's calm, steady manner, good humour and ability to draw anyone into conversation helped him easily make new friends wherever he went. Despite his ever-growing social circle, he also maintained numerous life-long friendships.
His cancer diagnosis in 2018 slowed him down, and his family is very grateful to be blessed with the last two years together with him. A sincere thank you to the CancerCare team for all their support.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
Larrie will be deeply missed, and we'll always think of him when we hear a good polka.
A private service is planned on December 28 at 1:00 p.m. in Winnipeg, officiated by Father Eric Giddins.
