ANNELIESE ALTHEN

Peacefully, on December 31, 2020, Anneliese passed away at Holy Family Home, at the age of 95.
Anneliese was born in Mannheim, Germany, on November 28, 1925. She came to Canada in 1959.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Hans, her parents and her siblings. She will be sadly missed by her children, Karl (Janice), Roland (Tina) and Christa (Richard); her grandchildren, Rick (Amanda), Terese (Ryley), Sandra (Alfredo) and Ernie (Biggi). She especially enjoyed meeting and holding her great-granddaughters, Annarose and Ella.
Anneliese was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. She enjoyed many years of travel with her husband and family to Palm Springs, Florida and Germany, where she made wonderful memories. We all enjoyed her delicious Sunday dinners and fabulous baking.
We would like to thank Dr. A. Babick and all of the caring staff of Unit 4A at Holy Family Home for their safe and excellent care of our mother. We so appreciated their support during her stay at the home.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be no formal funeral service. A private family interment will take place at a later date at Elmwood Cemetery.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Tante Anneliese was my mother's aunt and godmother. My parents visited Anneliese and her husband in Canada, travelling together with them for a few weeks in the 80's. I still remember the Althen family's visit to Mannheim in the 70's where I got to know Roland and Christa. My mother has stayed in touch with Anneliese for the longest time even after both of their husbands had died. How wonderful it is to have kept in touch for such a long time over such a distance. We will hold Tante Anneliese in beloved memories and send condolences to her loved ones. Warm regards, Angelika in the name of my mother Helga and my brother Michael. - Posted by: Angelika Greil (Second degree niece) on: Apr 06, 2022

  • First a Note to Kim: Thank you for your kind remarks. My mom was indeed kind and had a lot of stories. She had a very eventful life and not all of it without struggles. Each time she came out stronger. I'm proud of what my mom accomplished and the family she raised. In the end she left on her terms, peacefully and in her sleep. - Posted by: Karl Gotthardt (Son) on: Jan 06, 2021

  • So sorry to learn of the passing of Anne. I recall how we would get our hair done each week and then go to Smitty's for breakfast, bingo Thursday nights and the dinners. Anne knew how to keep a conversation going. My condolences on the loss of your mother and grandmother. - Posted by: Eleanor Repa (Friend) on: Jan 05, 2021

  • I enjoyed sitting with her and learning of her past life. Such a kind woman! - Posted by: Kim (Passed Rec worker) on: Jan 05, 2021
