KENNETH MAREK
Ken was born in Minitonas on December 24, 1950 to Jerry and Annie Marek. He attended Brandon University where he earned a degree in education, and where he met his future wife, Jane (Drebit). They married August 21, 1971.
After graduation, they moved to Gillam, Manitoba where he began his teaching career, and where their children were born. They moved to Winnipeg in 1978, where they raised their family, and where Ken completed his master's degree in education. He worked as a resource teacher for 35 years, first at Chancellor Elementary, then Ryerson Elementary school.
He dedicated a lot of his time to his children; he coached their soccer teams, managed their hockey teams, cheered us on at our hockey games and Ukrainian dance recitals, and drove us to our piano lessons. We will always fondly remember the camping and road trips of our youth, going for hikes and putting up our campsites together as a family.
He was very active at Grant Memorial Church, and for many years sat on the board of Linden Christian School.
He retired in 2008, and was able to take a long awaited trip to the Holy Land in 2013. He and our mother loved taking cruises in their retirement, as well as several trips to Mexico and the Caribbean.
His faith in Christ was the most important thing to him, and even in his last sickness, in his last time talking to his children, he told each of us to remember that God is good. Passing that message on to us wasn't just words, it was the mission of his life.
Ken was predeceased by his parents; his parents-in-law, Steve and Stella Drebit; his brother Ron; and his sister Ethel. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Jane; and three children, Chris (Victoria), Ryan, and Shannon (Blaine McDougall); as well as his two grandchildren, Matthew and Samantha.
Our family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface for the care they showed to our beloved father in his last days.
Due to restrictions, a memorial of his life will take place at a later date.
"Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you." John 16:22

Having known Ken & Jane through home fellowship & church, we remember Ken as a sincere & kind individual who loved his Savior, loved this family & cared about education in schools & in matters of faith.
