DOROTHY (DOT) (NANA) WATSON
The middle of 11 children, Dorothy Leila was born on January 5, 1923 in Beausejour, Manitoba to Alfred and Ethel Purdy. In the 1930s she moved to Winnipeg, where she met the love of her life, George Watson. They married on January 23, 1940 and enjoyed 64 years together until his death on October 27, 2004. Dot and George delighted in spending time "at the lake" at their cottage in Laclu, Ontario, her favourite place. There she loved listening to the call of the loons and the sound of the train whistle. Dorothy will be remembered for her kindness and unconditional love as well as for her delicious baking. Family and friends fondly remember her shortbread, butter tarts, cherry snack cake, cheese balls, blueberry pie (with berries picked at Laclu), and "Nana" bread. A visit with her wasn't complete without a treat and a cup of tea. She also enjoyed celebrating St. Patrick's Day with a wee glass of Bailey's.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, Bill (Carla) and Rob (Marilou); a daughter-in-law Dianne; grandchildren, Kerrie Watson and her children, Ashlie and Austyn; Kellie (Ryan) Glass and their children, Brooke, Madison and Cassia; Jeffrey (Nicole Smith) Watson, Kimberley (Jared) Willans and their children, Ava and Lily; Tamara Cherewan, and Alexa Watson. She was also "Nana" to step-grandchildren, Erin (Brett) Roth and their son Nikai, Emily Verbrick, Nick (Camille) Verbrick, and Joana (Marc) Garcia and their children, Marcus, Alexander and Nathan. She is further survived by a brother, Lawrence and a sister, Nora, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many kind neighbours and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her oldest son, George, a grandson, Bradley, sisters, Bea, Rose, May, Hazel, Ruth and Ruby, and brothers, Ralph and Bob.
Per Dorothy's wishes there will be no funeral service. A celebration of her life will be held when we can safely gather. Her ashes will be joined with her beloved George's at Winnipeg's Brookside Cemetery.
We love you, Nana, and will forever hold
you in our hearts and see your loving wave goodbye from your window. We'll "hang in there" until we meet again.
