DOUGLAS RUSSELL BELL
A veteran, in his later years Doug was both the president and director of archives at the Winnipeg Railway Museum. His work with the museum, and the people there, meant a great deal to him. Doug was very much his own person, and led his own life. A hard worker, he also had a very big heart and made many sacrifices in order to support others. He will be missed, but will live on in our hearts and minds.

I am very saddened to hear of Doug's passing. I was looking for info on the web to contact his sons and this came up. Doug was a very caring person who would help anyone he could. He was a passionate thinker who was always working on new ideas to improve tasks. He was very computer literate and was using the old Vic 20 with multiple memory additions to save and compute data (which could take a couple of days instead of seconds) in those days... Doug has two sons whom he loved more than anyone will ever know. We forever discussed their lives, aspirations and his fear of loosing touch with them. In one of our last conversations Doug had stated, I am happy with my life now, I have a home, money in my pocket and the train museum. Doug and I spent many days watching the planes land, checking out trains, real and "N" gage. We met through my brother Gary, whom Doug befriended when he hung out at his hardware store in the model department. He hired Gary to watch out for shop lifters and they became friends for life. We had many wonderful moments together, we had wins, defeats, challenges, laughter and tears but we never lost the love and deep friendship we shared. You are forever loved! - Posted by: Holly Bell (wife) on: Nov 12, 2021

Was always appreciative of his hard work to arrange our group visits and host our Rail Travel tours guests touring the Winnipeg Railway Museum. I know he also did this for youth groups and other tours and for his and hard work and commitment to having the museum open and talks on the phone about rail travel and heritage he will be missed. - Posted by: DARYL (ADAIR) on: Feb 08, 2021
