EILEEN E. GEORGE
Born in the family's home in Winnipeg, Eileen grew up during the Great Depression. Education was important to the family, as was hard work, but with time for music, art and reading.
After graduation from Gordon Bell High School in 1946 Eileen took her first teaching job, starting a career that she would stay with until retirement.
Eileen had a very full life with family and friends, travel and many activities. Despite her declining health, she was able to enjoy life in her own apartment until the very last day, and we appreciate the support of the wonderful caregivers of the WRHA, the management and staff of the Boulton, and her companions from Home Care Assistance.
Eileen was predeceased by her parents, Alan George and Elsie (Finnie) George; sister Girnith (George) Stewart; and brother-in-law Lawrence Stewart. She will truly be missed by nieces, Harriet Neal and Laura Jean Bueckert; nephew George Stewart and their spouses and children, as well as her cousins and friends.
As per her request, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held when circumstances permit. In the meantime, Eileen's family kindly requests that her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by visiting her tribute page at EthicalDeathCare.com. A photo-biography, as well as memories and stories published by those who knew her, are available there.

My husband, Stuart and I, would like to offer our condolences with the passing of Eileen. While it is not mentioned in the memories of her life, Eileen was a Farmerette in September, 1943 at the Waterford Camp in Ontario for two weeks and again for a full season in 1944 at the Queenston Camp, also known as the Larkin Camp, located in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario. She, and her sister, Girnith, worked many long hours taking care of the fruits and vegetables in this area of Niagara. Many of the men had gone to serve in the Second World War and so there were few men left to run the many farms. There were roughly 20,000 farmerettes helping with food production during the years of the Second World War and they are finally, now, being recognized for the vital role they played. My husband and I now own the farm that was the Larkin Camp. Eileen's sister, Girnith, visited here with her husband in the early 2000's. Girnith then sent me pictures of her time here as a farmerette. Both she and Eileen are in some of those pictures. Many of the surviving farmerettes are now in their 90's. I was hoping to be able to contact both Eileen and Girnith to thank them again for their efforts as farmerettes and to let them know their stories are being told and will not be forgotten. To the surviving family members we would like to say how special Eileen and her sister Girnith were. The Farmerettes were blessed to have them as part of their team and you were blessed to have them as family members. - Posted by: Alice VanderMeer (Family friend) on: Jun 16, 2023
