LENARD J. SOLTYS
June 7, 1939 - April 19, 2021

Lenard died from colon cancer on Monday, April 19, 2021, with his wife, Linda, by his side.
He was born in June 1939, the only child of John and Mary Soltys of Zbaraz, MB. In July 1967, he married Linda Rindall and gained five sisters-in-law, brother-in-law Gary, and in his own words, "the best mother and father-in-law" (Pauline and Ernie) that he could have ever hoped for.
Except for a three year contract in the 1970s with Manitoba Hydro on the Churchill River Diversion, he was employed by the Manitoba Government Department of Highways, until his retirement in 1999.
His love of four part harmony led him to join Winnipeg's Barbershop Chorus and eventually several quartets.
His adventurous side led to alot of travel to many parts of the world. He cherished those memories but closer to home earlier days of camping with family and friends, along the shore on Lake Manitoba, remained his most memorable.
He used his quirky sense of humour at Deer Lodge, Riverview and Grace Hospice as a way of showing his great appreciation to his caregivers including his home care workers during many difficult times. Thank you to all especially Dr. Kirschner, who diagnosed, prescribed and helped him control his mental illness. Also grateful to good friends, family and neighbours for their support especially Pat and Dan Choma, Al and Ethel Hook, Dennis Nykoliation, the Leuzinger family, Don, Elaine and Gary. To Emma, Grace and Rex thank you for all the joy you brought Uncle Lenard.
Besides his wife Linda, he is survived by his Aunt Rose Ostryzniuk and several cousins in Manitoba, Ontario and the US.
A celebration of Lenard's life will take place at a later date.

Rest In Peace Lenard....Love your "Missus"

  • Len was a key member throughout my eight years of membership in the then-Winnipeg Golden Chordsmen Chorus, I remember him as being very convivial, warm-hearted and enthusiastic. In addition to his keen sense of humour, he was one of those exceptional people who have the natural gift of being able to impart their enthusiasm, attract others and retain their interest. This seemed to come easily to Len. His leadership skills portrayed this feature of his personality, and he was popular in his term as Chapter President of the Chordsmen. In extending sympathy to his wife and family, in my heart I say “Thanks for the memories, Len”. • Sorry to learn of Len's passing. Len was a 16 year member of the Winnipeg Barbershop Chapter ('67 to '84), served as the VP of Quartet Promotions for 3 years, VP of Membership, Annual Show Chair, and in '81 was the Chapter President. He had a very fine Bass voice! He will be welcomed in the Barbershop Chapter Eternal! We were actually neighbours in St. Vital, living about 4 doors down from Linda and Len, on Ashworth St. Fond memories of singing together on the chorus risers.
