MAGDALENA CECILIA STROET
(nee JONKER)
She is survived by her 11 children, Elizabeth (Eugene), Anita (Alan), Mary (Frank), Adrian (Louise), John, Richard (Charlene), Margaret (Doug), Silvia, Lorraine (Mike), Joanne, and Jim (Shera); 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Toni, Harry (Anne), Sister Johanna, Cecile (Ted), Peter (Mary) and Neil's wife Leidie. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Harry (2005); parents, Arie (1973) and Antonia (1995); brothers, John (1953), Jack (2011) and Neil (2020); and Toni's husband Kees (2007).
Lena was born on November 30, 1930 in Nieuw-Vennep, Netherlands. She was the oldest of the nine Jonker children. Lena and her family moved to Canada in 1951, arriving in St. Eustache, Manitoba. In the summers Lena worked very hard on the farm and in the winters she worked in the city at a maid service and at St. Boniface Hospital. During this time, she met her love, Harry, and they married September 19, 1953. Shortly after, the couple moved to North Kildonan and started their life together.
Lena could always be seen sewing, knitting or doing other crafts. She loved to garden. She picked lots of fresh produce which her children helped to preserve and freeze. Lena enjoyed volunteering at her church, care homes and hospitals. She was a very generous and loving person. Lena also enjoyed volunteering at bingo where she sold tickets. Many treasured friendships were born there.
Lena had a very strong faith, was exceptionally caring and could always see the good in people. She was charitable with her time and went out of her way to help those in need. Lena is a great role model for all of us to follow.
A private family service will take place and a Celebration of Life will follow at a later date.

I was lucky enough to have spent some time with Mrs Stroet during my friendship with Silvia. Most memorable was Silvia and me taking her out to dinner then to see Nana Mouskouri in concert. What a sweet lady Mrs Stroet was. The world is a better place because she was a part of it and now the world is a little sadder because she is gone. The heavens are rejoicing to welcome such an angel. - Posted by: Helen Calpin (Friend of Silvia) on: May 16, 2021

We were so sad to hear of Lena's passing - Lena did see the good in everyone - her family was her priority and she cared for others so much too. The countless hours of volunteer work in her Church and Nursing Home were truly a blessing for all of us. Working with her at the St. Gerard's Bingo - always a smile on her face and helping others there. Her dedication to volunteering every Friday at Bingo for many years was appreciated by all. So many memories - her smile and laughter and stories brought us so much joy - an amazing lady. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. John and Rosemary Komadowski and family. - Posted by: John and Rosemary Komadowski (Friend) on: May 12, 2021
