BERNIE SPAKOWSKI
March 28, 1935 - May 30, 2021

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bernie (Bernard) Spakowski of West St. Paul, Manitoba, peacefully at home, aged 86. Born March 28, 1935 in Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba, Bernie was the loving son of Joseph and Marcella (nee Smerchanski).
The youngest in his family, he was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Charlie, Jean Koblensky, Edith Mann, Helen Haggerty, Frank, Stella Lee, John, and Peter.
Bernie had many stories about growing up in their tiny homestead house and of weekend visits to the Winnipeg Beach boardwalk in its heyday.
Bernie attended the boys' school in Teulon and eventually moved to the big city where he graduated from Tec - Voc High School's Automotive Technology program. It was Bernie's mission in life to make sure everyone's vehicle was always in good running order. He was a member of the Model A Restorers Club, and was the proud owner of a 1928 Model A Ford Tudor Sedan and a 1968 Ford Mustang, both lovingly restored with his own hands.
Bernie enjoyed golf - twice scoring a once-in-a-lifetime hole-in-one. He also enjoyed attending car shows, growing delicious tomatoes, puttering around his workshop, and dancing a polka.
Survivors include his son Craig (Amanda); his daughter Andrea (Roger); Patricia Frantz; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, scattered near and far.
The family sends loving wishes to everyone for good health and happiness. We extend our gratitude to the entire community who helped Dad realize his wish to remain in his own home until the very end. To neighbours, friends, Dr. Hechtenthal, and the homecare workers, we appreciate everything you have done to assist, support, and include him. Thank you for your kindness.
There will be no public service at this time. We hope we can get together once again one day soon for a Celebration of Life.
Gifts of flowers are respectfully declined but expressions of sympathy may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Seven Oaks Hospital.
