FLORENCE OLIVE SHETTLER
Flo was predeceased by her husband Vic in 2004. Flo will be lovingly remembered by her four sons, Derek (Helen) and their children, Matthew (Julie), Adam and Andrea; Greg (Brenda) and Kyle; Blair (Maria) and their children, Mia and Gio; Bryan (Sue) and their children, Heather and Eric. She is survived by Fred, her adopted brother.
Her parents, Maude and Charles Walker met on the ship as they were immigrating to Canada from England. Flo was later born in Winnipeg, MB on April 6, 1926. Flo was an energetic and beautiful woman who met Vic in the North End of Winnipeg where they both lived.
She was the responsible first born who was charged regularly with caring for her other three siblings, Shirley, Lillian, and Fred. Fred, although living in Ontario, often made it a priority to stop in on Mom and maintain their relationship over the years.
Flo and Vic developed great relationships and formed a community of friends with many members of the Elmhurst Golf Club. Also, she loved the social atmosphere that occurred many times a month playing cards with Vic's brothers and their wives and enjoyed many great friendships with women from Dad's hockey fraternity. She developed close friendships with Pat Perry and Janet Shettler and has kept those to this day.
The family wishes to express thanks to the Riverview palliative care staff who showed Mom so much compassion and kindness, and to Jessica Clendenan at Access River East, and Sayoan Ratna at Concordia Hospital for their decisive attention to my Mom's needs.
With respect to Mom's wishes, there will be no funeral or celebration service and Voyage Funeral Home has already completed the cremation.

FLORENCE OLIVE SHETTLER
Flo was predeceased by her husband Vic in 2004. Flo will be lovingly remembered by her four sons, Derek (Helen) and their children, Matthew (Julie) (great-grandkids, Nathan and Daniel), Adam and Andrea; Greg (Brenda), and Kyle (Keri) (great grand-kids, Alicia and Liam); Blair (Maria) and their children, Mia (Chris) and Walker, Carli and Gio; Bryan (Sue) and their children, Heather and Eric. Her parents, Maude and Charles Walker met on the ship as they were immigrating to Canada. Flo was later born in Winnipeg, MB on April 6, 1926. Flo was an energetic and beautiful woman who met Vic in the North End of Winnipeg where they both lived.
She was the responsible firstborn who was charged regularly with caring for her other two sisters, Shirley, Lillian. She brought this same nurturing and responsible attitude to her new family which eventually consisted of five men. She often worked two jobs, as well as managing a household of four active sports-minded sons. At the same time, Flo became a great cook for a family on the run. She loved to host her family and grandkids whenever possible.
Flo, with great patience dedicated herself to figuring out the sport of golf and pushed herself to endure many hours of "training" from Vic. She and Vic developed great relationships and formed a community of friends with many members of the Elmhurst Golf Club. Also, she loved the social atmosphere that occurred many times a month playing cards with Vic's brothers and their wives, and enjoyed many great friendships with women from Dad's hockey fraternity. She developed close friendships with Pat Perry and Janet Shettler and has kept those to this day. She regularly volunteered at Parkside Plaza where she loved helping to serve others in the meal program there.
It has been said that strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strength. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength. Mom always chose to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. Mom loved life, loved parties and social events, and lavished her love on all her grandchildren equally.
The family wishes to express thanks to the Riverview palliative care staff who showed Mom so much compassion and kindness.
With respect to Mom's wishes, there will be no funeral or celebration service. Cremation has taken place through Voyage Funeral Home.
We remember all the great stories and memories from her 90th birthday and we hope you do too!
There will be a short gathering around the family gravesite later in July, just with close family.

Mrs. Shettler was an incredible lady by the sounds of it. Being 95 years young, and well into her 96th year, the world has lost an amazing person. Condolences to her family. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Bradley Pisiak (sender of condolences) on: Jul 07, 2021

My parents, Claire and Cass Tobin, were very good friends of Flo and Vic. Vic and Cass were in the Navy together, and when they both married, Claire became close with your Mom. They all golfed at Elmhurst, and often played cards together. After my parents died, I kept in touch with Flo, sharing memories and catching up on family news. Flo always found the bright spot in any situation, and she had the most wonderful laugh. I shall miss our phone calls. I am so sorry for your loss.
