RODNEY PENNER
November 23, 1937 - July 5, 2021
He is survived by his wife Sylvia, just a few days short of their 50th anniversary, their sons, Craig (Lynette), Chad (Lorisa), and Curt (Kat); grandchildren, Zackary, Mikyla, Calla, Hailey and Eve.
He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Esther, brother Wayne and sister Julaine.
Grandpa was born on November 23, 1937, in Steinbach, Manitoba. He attended school in Greenland until grade 9, then went to work for Allen Penner in construction, building barns and houses. Grandpa and Grandma were married on July 10, 1971. They lived in the RM of Ste. Anne, and farmed with his brother Wayne, until Wayne's passing. Grandpa's passion was farming and he passed on the love of the land to his boys. You would often find one of us grandchildren sitting in the tractor, spending hours together working the field.
Grandpa was generous with his time volunteering in his community. He served as the president of Manitoba Pool, helped establish the French Immersion program in Ste. Anne. He served on the PTA, was a hockey coach and a councillor for one term in ward 5 for the RM.
Grandpa was so proud of his family. He loved us deeply. He enjoyed watching hockey, teaching us songs, playing games, bantering and laughing at the kitchen table. Family time is what he valued most. Quading, field checking, Sandilands picnics were some of the memories that we will cherish forever. We will miss you Grandpa.
The family would like to thank Dr. Fredette and home care for their care and support. To family and friends for your kind words, food and prayers.
Due to Covid restrictions a private family service has taken place.

So sorry to learn of Rod's passing. Our deepest condolences to you and your family. Bud worked with Rod and Wayne for one summer before his own Mom passed away. Sylvia , you and I were in nurse's training together. We sort of drifted apart when our families expanded and were busy with our own lives. We think of you frequently. Stay well. Take care. - Posted by: Bud and Darleen Lindsey (Friends ) on: Jul 10, 2021
