ARLIE MAY TROWSDALE
(nee NORRIS)

Peacefully on July 22, 2021, surrounded by her children, Mom left us to be reunited with Dad, just two weeks short of her 92nd birthday.
She was predeceased by her husband Walter, parents Norman and Mary Ann Norris; her four brothers; Ormand, Arthur, Gordon and Fred; and her three sisters; Mabel, Vera and Sadie.
Mom is survived by her children; Jim (Peggy), Sharon (Brian), Kim (Jamie) and Kelly (Darren). She is also survived by her grandchildren; Megan (Ryan), Ian, Allison, Caitlyn and Matthew; three step-grandchildren; Kim (Jonathan), Dan (Melanie) and Meghan (Chris) and seven step-great-grandchildren; Noah, Lisa, Emily, Sarah, Alice, Savannah and Kennedy as well as many nieces and nephews and her long time friend Carole Hreno.
Mom was the youngest of eight children, born and raised on the family farm in McMunn, Manitoba on August 4, 1929. She attended school in McMunn and Teulon where she made some lifelong friends. After school mom moved to Winnipeg and worked at Eaton's in the Mail Order Division.
Mom married the love of her life, Walter Trowsdale on September 1, 1951. Being married to a forester took them to various locations in South-eastern Manitoba before settling in Winnipeg in 1971 where Mom worked for the downtown Hudson's Bay Company for 25 years.
Mom's kids and grandkids were everything to her. There was nothing she liked more than all of us coming over to visit. The teapot was always hot and there would always be a cookie or a baked treat to go with it. She was the babysitter who never said no and her grandkids were always excited for sleepovers at Nannie and Papa's.
Mom was excellent at sewing, needlepoint and knitting. She couldn't just sit without working on one of her creations. We all have pictures, sweaters, afghans or slippers to look at and enjoy. Mom was also an outstanding cook and baker. It was amazing the delicious meals she could whip up at a moments notice. At Christmas, she would make dozens of different types of cookies, tarts and slices. Her pies were her speciality and we all had our favorites. She would always try to accommodate everyone, even if it meant making three different pies for dessert at a family dinner.
Mom loved to travel. She and Dad took many road trips to various places from coast to coast in Canada and the United States. A few of those trips were with their dear friends Carole and John Hreno. They would laugh, sing and tell stories as they drove across the country, stopping at little shops or rest areas for picnics along the way. Mom loved those trips. She took many pictures and would reminisce of the fun they had.
Mom spent her last four years at Riverpark Gardens Personal Care Home. Our family would like to thank all the wonderful staff for their kindness and loving care. Mom held a special place in their hearts and she always had a smile, hug, pinch, kiss or wink for them. She was treated like family and was very happy there.
We are going to miss Mom terribly. We will miss our talks, her advice, her sense of humour, her help and especially just being with her.
Respecting Mom's wishes, a private family gathering will take place.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB.
