STEFANIA POGORZELEC
(MARUSZEWSKI)
September 9, 1926 August 28, 2021
She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Peter (2015) and her parents, Jozef and Katerzina; her siblings, Irena, Maria, Janek, Josef and Stanislawa.
She is survived by her four sons, Edward (Brenda), Stan (Mary), John (Jan), Henry (Ellen); nine grandchildren, Kris (Scott), Cheryl (Toni), Daniel, Michael (Melissa), Niki, David, Brant, Stephen and Aiden; five great-grandchildren, Zachary, Taven, Arienna, Briley and Maddox and other family members in Canada and Poland.
Stefie was born near Opoczno, Poland in 1926. At the age of 16, she was taken to a forced labour camp in Germany during the Second World War. From there she immigrated to Canada as a Displaced Person in 1947 to Winnipeg and worked as an aide at the Misericordia Hospital. She met her husband and loving partner in 1950 and were married in 1952. They lived in the North End of Winnipeg for 12 years, then moved to East Kildonan in 1964, where Stefie lived until her passing. She raised four boys almost entirely on her own, as her husband would work multiple jobs. She was a matriarch to all her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She was the pillar and the glue that held the family together. She will truly be missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital, N1 North Wing, mentioning a few: Dr. Spencer, Dr Singh, the nursing staff: Charlotte, Resylyn, Sandra, Tes, Stacey and numerous health care aides and support staff, in allowing our mother to pass away peacefully.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, September 1 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Parish, 341 Munroe Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Holy Ghost Cemetery, 4287 Main Street, West Saint Paul, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Susan and I send our deepest sympathies and condolences. Unfortunately due to our travel schedule we will not be able to attend services. But our thoughts will be with you guy's. One memory of your mother that will always stick with me was the day that her accent turned me off "peanutbutter". You guy's know that story. LOL. Her humour, opinion and conversation will be sorely missed. - Posted by: John Pogorzelec (Nephew) on: Aug 31, 2021

We will remember your mother as a kind and dear lady. Always enjoyed our visits with her and your father. They always wanted to share their garden and sent me home with fresh tomatoes and other veggies. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Freda Van Niekerk (friend) on: Aug 31, 2021
