DONALD RAOUL LAVALLEE
February 25, 1951 September 15, 2021
Don leaves behind to mourn his passing his spouse Delores Schroeder; his precious nephew Paul Lavallee and his family; Paul's mother Janae Lavallee; Don's "sister" and brother-in-law Valerie and David Penner; his "brothers" and sisters-in-law, Rod and Barb Schroeder; Laurie and Carol Schroeder and family; Wes Schroeder and family; Grace Martel and family; Ron Schroeder; and Lloyd Schroeder; his step-fathers children and their families, Susan and Ken Trubiak, Reg and Shanshan Dahl, George and Kathy Dahl, along with aunties, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Donald was beloved by all. He had a natural ability to make friends. His sense of humour, his love of people, his dedication to family and friends, AA buddies alike, made him a very special best friend to all who had the privilege to get to be a part of his life. Don was a grateful member of the AA Tigers group, with a growing strong faith in his higher power God and not ashamed to share either one. He was an encourager to newcomers and made them feel welcome and accepted. He chaired the group and was treasurer for many years, dedicated to keeping the group alive during Covid-19.
Don retired in 2012 after many years of employment at the Transcona CNR shops as a tinsmith and then as a heavy duty mechanic. He had such very good friends there as well and you know who you are.
In our earlier years, Don and I enjoyed many summers at West Hawk Lake and Hecla Island, tenting and in our trailer, as well as the many golf courses throughout Winnipeg and Southern Manitoba, with our family members and very good friends.
Donald also enjoyed many fall hunting trips with his hunting buddies, as well as myself as his spotter, "shooting" with my camera, packing picnic lunches, as he gathered his limit of chickens. He was a man of varied interests; playing cards, doing puzzles, watching his favourite sports on TV - golf, swimming, hockey, baseball, football, reading and many conversations on the phone with family and friends. Don loved going for rides around town and the countryside with his brothers and various friends, going for coffee, suppers before meetings and occasional fun at the casino.
We all know he used his God-given gifts to help his fellow man, with his insight, ability to listen, to share, to encourage and lighten our lives with his antics and crazy sense of humour. He must have accomplished God's purpose for him here on earth, when God took him home on September 15. We all miss him so much already, but I believe he will live on in people's hearts and make a difference in others lives, if we emulate the good he spoke of and practiced in his daily life. He will continue to live in our hearts and memories.
God be with you, till we meet again with love. "Will there be any stars,
any stars in our crowns in the
evening when the sun goeth down

Omg Dolly I was so surprised to come back to Winnipeg and find out thru my CN breakfast buddies that Don LaVallee passed away. I know I haven’t seen him for a number of years, but I also know that it would be like no time had passed if we had seen each other. Now I’ll have to wait a bit longer to see him again. Don was such a funny guy when we worked on the same shift and in the same building. What an interesting person he turned out to be. I loved all you wrote about him Dolly and I’m so so sorry for your loss. I sorry for his family and friends. I’m sure there’s a huge hole in the many hearts he touched. Mine being one of them. Goodbye my friend, I’ll see you again! - Posted by: Randy Heatherington (Friend) on: Nov 15, 2021
