After a long battle with various health problems, Andrew died peacefully at home, with his wife Yvonne by his side.
He will be lovingly remembered by his two sons, who reside in England, David (Sarah) Robertson and Richard (Claire) Robertson; grandchildren, Alex, Elizabeth, Madeleine, and Talitha; brother-in-law Simon (Annie) Ludlow.
Andrew was born in Bombay (Mumbai), India on November 30, 1940, to Dr. Colin Henry Hope Robertson and Gladys Robertson. His father was Chief Medical Officer for Central Indian Railways.
Andrew was sent to England for his education. After five years at Prep School he won a scholarship to attend Marlborough College in Wiltshire, of which he always spoke very fondly. In 1959 he was awarded a major county scholarship to London University and completed his medical degree at The Royal London Hospital in 1964. He was fascinated by anatomy and earned his MPhil in 1970, lecturing in Anatomy at the Royal London and Royal Free Hospitals. This led to training in Surgery and specializing in Plastic Surgery receiving his FRCS in 1972.
In September 1977 he immigrated to Canada with Yvonne to take up a joint appointment at the Winnipeg Health Sciences as a member of the Section of Plastic Surgery, and as an Associate Professor in the University of Manitoba Faculty of Medicine. He was a partner in the Manitoba Clinic and practiced from there throughout his career. He had expertise in reconstructive surgery after surgical treatment of head and neck cancer. Other important interests were all aspects and advances in hand surgery. He was Director of the Hand Program. As Director of the Burns Unit was a founding member of the Fire Fighters Burn Fund.
He loved to travel, and his idea of heaven was to cross the Atlantic on the Queen Mary and arrive in England with no jet lag, but perhaps six pounds heavier. He was passionate about fine wine, good food, and was an excellent host. He liked a gin martini with a twist, stirred not shaken, English beer, and Sherry.
He collected cookbooks, new and antiquarian, and had a wide knowledge of all aspects of cooking, but his culinary skills were very poor, this was when Yvonne took over.
He played golf from the age of 11 and was a member of the Niakwa Country Club, where he had a circle of very good friends.
Andrew will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was a dedicated surgeon, teacher, and anatomist, and an English gentleman.
Yvonne wishes to thank Palliative Care and Home Care Assistance for all their help with nursing Andrew at home. Also all their friends who have been so supportive during this sad time.

A celebration of Andrew's life will be held in the spring.
