ADRIEN PERRAS
August 23, 1954 - December 23, 2021

With heavy hearts, we share the sad news that Adrien Perras passed away suddenly, on December 23, 2021, in the Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 67 years.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary of 30 years; daughter Kimberley; granddaughter Mia; siblings, Yvonne (Ken) and Marc (Jennifer); nieces, Alice and Elise (Richard); and nephew Chris (Sara) and their children; as well as nephew Justin (Mel).
Adrien was known for his wit, creativity and humour. Along with a long career as a Probation Officer, he was a man of many passions including most sports, especially in recent years, ice climbing, mountaineering, kayaking, curling, roller blading and hiking. He spent many happy hours doing home renovations/carpentry, working on cars, following Formula 1 racing, and cottaging at Rushing River. His wide friendship networks included Kim's Ottawa "family".
Adrien was given a lease on life through a kidney transplant at age 22 and packed a tremendous amount of joy and activity into living. Unfortunately, illness and dialysis dominated the last four years of his life. Adrien and Rosemary are so grateful to his original unknown kidney donor and to his brother Marc who donated a kidney to him so that he could continue his rich and active life. Unfortunately, he died of complications from that surgery. The family is grateful to the various renal services of Health Sciences Centre over the years, and to the doctors and nurses who tried so valiantly to save his life after a successful transplant occurred. A special thanks to extended family and all those friends who've supported us faithfully through many trials and tribulations.
Adrien's family kindly requests that his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by visiting his tribute page at EthicalDeathCare.com. A photo-biography, as well as memories and stories published by those who knew him, are available there.
Cremation has occurred and a private family gathering planned. There will be a celebration of his life in the spring when we can meet in the outdoors he loved.
If so wished, donations to The Kidney Foundation of Canada would be appreciated in his honour. The family also hopes that people will consider signing up to be an organ donor which is done online at signupforlife.ca

  • Rosemary and family, my sincerest sympathies for your loss of Adrien. He and you were the faces of Skyline Hiking for me for a few years when you were camp leaders. Adrien had a gentle, yet very capable way of leading, and solving any problems that arose in camp. I was absolutely delighted to be in camp with the two of you, whether on a hike, in the doughnut singing, or listening to Adrien describe a trail we might try. What a courageous man, to have lived his life so fully, despite the health challenges he had faced. What a great example for the rest of his family. It was a privilege to know Adrien. - Posted by: LInda Dion (Skyline Hiker) on: Jan 16, 2022

  • To the man who wasn’t only my grandpa but my best friend. you made such a great impact on my life day by day. There was never a dull moment with you, it was always an adventure and I couldn’t have wished for better. You were the one who got me through everything I went through these past 17 years not only that but you were there when I needed a friend. I will miss all of our talks and your sense of humour that always got me in a good mood, I could never stop smiling around you. I will never forget all of our fishing, kayaking adventures at the lake and the doll houses you built me. Waking up early in the morning and making banana pancakes was always my favourite and even when you were exhausted you still got up to make them with me. You always pushed me to do my best and helped me learn that there is always room to grow as a person and that we all go through things that make us stronger. You were one of the best role models in my life and I can’t tell you enough how grateful I am to have gotten to grow up with you by my side. You are so strong and I aspire to be like you and I will continue living day by day as you taught me. I miss you like crazy and I love you, you’re my whole world and it absolutely breaks my heart that I had to let you go tonight. You have such a big heart and I really hope you’re doing good up there because you deserve the absolute world. just know that this year, I'm graduating for you and I know how much you would’ve loved to be there. je t’aime gros pepère - Posted by: mia lemoine (my grandfather) on: Dec 31, 2021

  • I met Adrien through climbing in NW Ontario and the ACC. I always enjoyed being in his company and sharing the outdoors with him. Whether it be on the other end of the rope or around a campfire it was always a nice experience. My sincere condolences to Adriens family and friends. - Posted by: Randy Abbott (Acquaintance ) on: Dec 31, 2021

  • I am so sorry to learn of Adrien's passing. He was such fine fellow - so friendly and enthusiastic. I recall a ski from our cabin one very cold January day when only Adrien, Pat D and I ventured out into the wind and cold. That is how I will remember Adrien - always ready to give it a go. If you can, go for a ski in this cold, cold weather in his memory - he would like that. My deep condolences to his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him. - Posted by: Peter Muir (Friend and fellow climber) on: Dec 31, 2021
